Truck Insurance

I need a quote for my truck insurance, as the present providers, (Walker Midegley), have jacked up the price from last year by about £120.
I have been to the local NFU office to get a quote, and that was £1800 on a commercial policy. The lad said they couldn't give me a quote on the 15 year old policy because I haven't got anything else insured with them.
Is this right? Thoughts and experiences please would be helpful.

Thanks for the replies so far guys.
I think the magic figure for vintage is 15 years old, because I tried them last year and because it was only 14 years old it was a no goer.
This year it would qualify but because I have no other business written with the NFU they wouldn't give me a vintage policy quote. Have you chaps all got other business written with them?

When I first had a quote they wanted silly money and I went elsewhere for a year. In the meantime. a friend took out a vintage policy with NFU for just over £100 so at renewal I had another quote but it was still silly money. I then showed them my friends policy which was from another branch 30 miles away and suggested I try that branch. They said they had never heard of the vintage policy but would look into it with no mention of already having insurance with them. Came back with a quote of £110. Been with them 2 years and have now insured my Classic tractors at a good premium with them.

Well I thought I could maybe get round it by insuring the tractor and plough with them. Now I have had another thought, that as I haven't got any other business written with them they won't be able to quote me for that either. So how do I get started with them?
What branch are you with Tony? Might have to call them next week.

A friend had the same issue, not having anything else insured with them but think he insured his tractor/plough through them along with the lorry. I will ask him. I have other business with them so had no issue. Used the Ciren branch here

I had the same issue. Phoned up the local branch and they could. It help. Phone up NFU HQ and after giving all the details they then said they could not insure me as I didn’t have an existing policy. They then said they could start my tractor policy with me and then add the lorry at a later date.

That was no use as I was 1/2 way through my policy with WM and would loose too much swapping.

Just a note of caution. I was informed that NFU only inside on their vintage policy for 3000 miles.

WM, while a bit more do 6000, bit you can increase it.

I know with the number of matches I do, I would soon be over the 3000 mile mark.

Not that I am sure how they would know?

Regards

I have a Man 8.155 beaver tail. insured it with Walker Midgley, any driver with owners permission last year £239.04. This years renewal is £357.00 and haven't had the renewal for the tractor and plough yet. I can't see how they can justify a 33% increase. Seems like you have a very good deal.

I renewed my in 1 hit, it did go up from £472 last year, but it's still ok for me,
The 3000 miles a year on NFU is a killer for me, as I do about twice that,
If it keeps jumping, I may well have to rethink

If anyone is looking for an insurance quote then please feel free to drop me a line. I will see if I can assist. I work as an independent insurance broker for www.agribrokers.co.uk and would be more than happy to take a look. we have access to the whole insurance market (apart from the NFU of course) so saves you shopping around as we do the leg work for you.

Tony I would like to thank you for putting me in touch with the Bridgnorth NFU office. I spoke to a nice young lady called Alicia who has hopefully sorted my insurance needs.
After trying the Leighton Buzzard, Ware and NFU direct offices and told that I needed to have pre-existing business in order to get a quote for vintage truck insurance, (in fact the lad at NFU direct told me I needed to have all my vehicles insured with them before they would do a vintage quote). Alicia said I will just check with the underwriters, and five minutes later phoned back and said no problem. Within half an hour she had quoted me for the truck, tractor and ploughs. Job done.
So a massive thank you to Tonym and Alicia at Bridgnorth NFU.
Finally if any of you are looking for vintage truck insurance, don't waste time trying to get a quote, just phone Alicia.
