Truck mounted feeder??

Maybe a stupid question but we are looking into getting a diet feeder and was wondering has anyone mounted one on a truck chassis as a cheap power plant? My sheds are only suited to rear discharge and I’ve 12feet in height to work with. I’ve been told that tub feeder is best for bales silage and hopefully buy in beet aswell

Way back in the 1990's Reading University at their CEDAR research farm had a Keenan feeder unit mounted on a Milk Float chassis. I remember seeing on a couple of visits, so you are not crazy.

One place near here had the front of a unimog on the front of a Keenan. Keenan engineer helped build it on the weekends

I never thought of that but an automatic box would solve that problem.

What you need is a 5 wheeler horsch with a twin tub on the top ,
will see if can find a picture of it ,man feeds a lot of cattle with it or did

Bg Junior is back from 18 months in Canada. The farm he was on had 2 trucks with feeders on, system worked really well he says.

Manual box with crawler? Find a double drive unit with hub reductions

It's a lot of effort to make something that specialised for a small number of cattle. I'd much rather have the flexibility of being able to swap another tractor on in a pinch. We've had breakdowns but never miss a mix, not so easy on a self propelled.

I know what you mean but my thinking is trucks can be bought cheaply and parts are way easier on the pocket and I’m hoping to feed bull beef so they will be housed late July and my 4 tractors will still be busy at hire work until late October and again from January so I’d have to buy another tractor for feeder

A man over here builds stone carts on lorry chassis for utility work and uses old bin lorries as the power plant / chassis as they have full hydraulics and slow enough drive speeds.

In the US, feeders / mixers are always mounted on a truck, in their cattle feedlots
