Full refurb for this one, on a tight budget of course!!!

Frame stripped, furrow width mechanism moved to the right hand side of the headstock, then had to build one worn mouldboard up with weld. 2 of them were very badly worn on the leading edge, so repaired those with a bit of jiggery pokery, one needed a new tail as well, its not as ive its going to do a 1000 acres a year, so wear on the softer steel shouldnt really be an issue, welded it with stick welder and as low heat as i could get away with, to try and avoid heating the board up too much. Pleased with how they look tbh

Made a new top strut for the headstock, yes i know it should be round tube, but i had an excess of flat bar in stock, so may as well use it, i can make a tube strut if and when i happen across a bit of tube

didnt fancy forking out for a full set of decent YL183s, hence spending a day repairing what i have...

Got it all back together, not happy with the alginment of it, so took frogs off tongiht and will investigate more tommorrow with the tape measure

Got it all back together and something just didnt seem right, point to beam clearances mainly

stripped it all back down again, and found this!!

Thanks to @Pennine Ploughing for tips on how to get everything straight again!!

Now got the 4th furrow extension off to correct a previous repair to the 3rd furrow beam, more cutting, heating and welding needed

good job this was a cheap plough, its cost not much in parts, but its eating the hours up!!!

Indeed.

Seems the story is that the plough was originally a 3f as built new. At some point in its life, the 3rd furrow got ripped out of the frame. At this point, it was welded up, and a 4th leg and frame was procured, the 3rd leg was swapped over as it had the long landslide, and fitted to the 4th position. Another bit of bar was welded under the frame at the 3rd, to bring the leg out to the correct width, as it was bent

Ive now got it all together, with the frame re-welded properly (pics to follow). The 3rd leg is straight when viewed from the side, but has a tiny lean towards the 2nd. Its such a fine bend that i doubt it would come out, so it insert a purpose made skim into the top of the leg, to bring it back to line

Now setting point to beam clearances

Sorry for being flippant in my previous post. Are you going to sell it now or use it? Looks very smart BTW.

Need to try it first, get it set right and maybe paint it

always fancied having a shallow work 4f what can go behind either of the 14s or the 990, so i can get some ground blacked over early on while the 15 is still on drainage board jobs

It needs a full set of discs ideally, have the skims set so they will work properly without them, ie running a touch wide. If i put discs in it il have to dismantle the skims, turn the stalks and bring the skims back in line with the landslides, hence all the new bolts

Why do you want a full set of discs? I thought they were for grassland or match ploughs?

Its going to be a match plough eventually...albeit with a proper set of skims and not those poxy disc mounted ones what dont seem to make a decent job in anything less than perfect conditions

Plus it helps preserve the mouldboards, as without them, it will tend to wear the leading edge off, no replaceable shins on 183 boards, hence my earlier cutting and welding to bring them back to a usuable state

Disc mounted skims look like t**s to me too
