Almost there, but I don't think they would be man enough for a heavy 11ft Yard gate.

And, the gate is only about 2" tube :)

As the gates easier to take to the welder than the post is can't you move the hinge on the gate?
The green hinge looks similar to the ones used on a wooden gates, bit of time on the anvil with a big hammer should sort out the final shape

The problem is the bottom hinges on a pair of gates have broken. They are "one off" gates made donkey's years ago for a cattle holding and sorting yard. So I wanted to put two clamp on hinges on each gate and essentially move the top hinge point up 50mm and but a replacement clamp hinge on the bottom of each gate.

I wondered about modifying or making a clamp hinge, but felt sure there was an off the shelf option available... there is, but it is 12K miles away!! :)

I’d chop the hinges off and weld back on. I do it regularly it’s not as bad as you think cut the top weld off and hit it off with hammer bottom weld will just crack of. I think you will be disappointed with those sort of fittings especially if as I suspect the gates are heavy

Cheers. I have done this in the past, but doing this would entail doing both gate and post. The gate hinge at the bottom rotted away so would need to com up 50mm now and TBH welding super thing gate tubes with an arc welder is..... tricky :) Hence my thought on clamps, possibly with a dab of weld to keep them stable.

Looking for an easy, low cost, low hassle option. ;)

Got teh gates off yesterday and looked closely and I think I might just get a new set of gates as having measured them, they are still available... at a price! I would need to refix the bottom hinge by 6" on the gate, and obviously, then do the same on the hanging post.

The old ones would then go on a field gate in the future, where the hinge placements are not an issue!

This job HAS to be done, as the one gate came off this year when a calf got it's head under and lifted it off and it then fell on Herself's foot, which was not appreciated! Very understandably...

I will also modify and put a lower bottom rail to prevent lambs and calves coming under in the future. Part of the future farm project, to make life easier, no more gates held with string and wire etc.... Proper fence and barriers ...

Sorry postman arrived
Back to subject.... gate posts can be modified to suit anything at all with old off cuts of metal
Gates can be made not to be lifted off very easy
