Over the years there have been many times when pigs look brilliant, there have been just as many times when they are dire.

Although our prices haven't gone up like those in Europe this time I worry that we will lose our export trade a bit, flooding the market with all the cuts we don't eat including cull sow and boars.

Also I worry that in a very short time the Chinese will be eating less pork but have moved their huge pork production potential into vast efficient units and become exporters.

US pork will be very cheap if it gets here too.

Tulip now owned by the Brazillians of course.

The deal is very much as Tulip/BQP will tell you.
What I have said before is that if you have to borrow most of the money AND employ someone to do the job then its probably a non starter, otherwise get their information pack and then if you want to know more go and visit a few farms. I am very happy to discuss with you on the phone, or better still come and see us. We have 2000 pig spaces, and on 3rd batch. PM me if you want.

Fairly easy, reliable & low risk form of income. You provide sheds, water, straw and labour and they provide pigs, haulage, food and meds. Set price per week which never decreases only increases over time. Like all contracts though you get a small piece of the pie whilst lots of other people take the rest for little work. Where I used to work we had pigs on contract and were finishing over 20,000 a year. I looked into it before I returned home and the payback is between 7-10 years depending what you build. Decided against it in the end as the organisation wasn't that impressive and I don't want to work for the benefit of others.

worse thing about pigs is when they start mucking in the wrong place, but we are on our 5th batch now and are still learning a bit every time
We are on 3rd batch. 2 sheds. This time each from a different source. One shed is mucky as hell, the other is so clean that half the pens probably don't even need a muck fork. Can't really work out why. Breeding? temperature?

i think it is more temp/ wind weather conditions than breeding, but breeding does have a effect, also gut health plays a part
We have got 2 sheds. basically extended yard out from exisiting buildings. so have a shed on outside and shed more sheltered.
we used to have boys in the sheltered shed and girls in the outside one, the girls were always cleaner but more at you where boys were less bothered with you but dirtier.
This batch we are doing a feed trial so it was half boys half girls in both sheds. ( in seperate pens) and the one shed is still clean and other one not so.
we are considering putting fans in to extract air in addition to galebreaker vvs screen.

we have just gone to scraping out twice a day in the dirty shed on the side furthest from the feeder to see if that helps.
Will pm u @snarling bee
