Got 160 older ewes going to the beltex/texelx tups on the 7th October.
Then 255 younger/older ewes going with tups from the 10th November.
Was going to dip them all at the end of the month, will the tups still be ok to go with the ewes after dipping?
Can't get mobile dipper any sooner

Ive read somewere, possibly on a thread here about nz beltexes iirc, that length will be very important in lamb carcasses in future much more important than back ends. The loin is the most valuable part of the carcass so that makes sense. I think there were some processors working on a way to pay more for extra loin and less for leg or something too.
Aye and apparently shoulder is only 10% of the value of the carcase yet has equal influence with gigot and loin on the EUROP grade. Doesn't add up.

Bit of a different photo - we are using this one. Lloyd Charmoise 523 - the highest gigot scored Charmoise ever @neilo ;)

Loins have always been the most valuable cut, or at least for a couple of decades, yet pricing here is still based on the EUROP grid.:scratchhead:
Nothing winds me up more than seeing weedy looking chops in a supermarket, with bugger all eye muscle area. It's no wonder folk think lamb's dear, when you only get half a scrap of neat on some of those chops.:banghead:

If the processors rewarded better loins, then they'd get better loins. The technology & breeding is there already. If they pay premiums for bigots via EUROP, then that's what they'll get.

If they did get rid of the EUROP grid and make something more suited to loin value (as it sounds like they should) it would REALLY p**s off the beltex and other more extreme confirmation texel people

Actually, I was told the Beltex has a higher proportion of meat in the loin than most other breeds, there's just not enough of it (slow growth). I very much doubt they could get more (genetic) growth into them without losing a chunk of that fleshing though, and there appears to be little support for any breeding vehicle to do so. There are a small clique of recorded breeders, but hardly a big enough population of recorded sheep to make any real progress, and seemingly no support whatsoever for the idea from the breed society.
