Turbine Public Liability

Our e-3120 used to be insured with our normal farm insurers until they stopped covering turbines a couple years ago. Since then is been with CNC Asset Management. Renewing this year I realised that I hadn't had the PL option on the cover last year :X3: complete oversight on my part somehow - (had been sure I had) - but asked for it to be added on the renewal. Have been told the underwriters are no longer offering it - CNC looked into it and eventually responded:

"Further to your recent enquiry below, we write to advise you that Pioneer Syndicate 1980 went into run-off in 2019, so is not accepting any new policies, but they are currently allowing renewal of existing policies provided there is no requirement for any additional cover or new sections of cover. This means that, if your insurance demands and needs have not changed since last year, you can renew your policy for a further year (or two – if applicable) with Pioneer. However if you have a requirement to add any further cover to your policy, or to effect an optional section of the policy which you have not taken out previously, this will not be possible with Pioneer."

Talked to my farm insurers but they didn't seem too keen and thought the turbine insurers should allow the option. I guess the possibility of injury etc to a member of the public is very low (although there is a footpath near it) but could be pretty nasty if something did happen. Anyone else on here in a similar situation?

Owning a turbine is just a bleady nightmare as need everlasting deep pockets and balls of steel as you keep getting kicked in them?☹️.
If you owned 5 or more I think one down would be covered by the others running but single turbines just open you up for massive financial shocks

When we first insured our (E3120) turbine, we were advised by the insurance company that we used (can't remember who it was, now, but it wasn't the farm insurers), that as we owned the land that it was on (albeit as a separate business) then it was covered by the existing public liability for the farm business. We asked our broker to check this out and he confirmed it was correct. We have never had separate public liability insurance for the turbine. We are also with CNC for the non-public liability insurance.
