Just leave the fecker alone, next thing you'll be wanting a good second hand engine because the balancer shafts have sh!t them selves, by the way have you tried to find a good second hand engine for these old girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We tweaked a MF3085 several years ago, thankfully when on a Dyno, a small movement on the pump took it from 100hp to 147hp and within minutes it was getting way to hot........so if you do it be very careful

Turn ring against rotation of pump to increase, with rotation to decrease

Other option is to change which hole the throttle spring connects to the governor plate...there are 3 holes in the throttle lever, and 3 in the governor plate. Would have to have a look in the book to see which combination of hole increases the sensetivity of the governor, which would give her a bit more of an "urge" when it gets a load on it

All risky stuff though as said, there a lot of stuff spinning round in that sump, and those balancer shaft bushes were satans own

That one came out with a turbo, make sure you have no leaks on the manifolds, before, instead or after, adjustment of the pump.

The 2140 usually is a superb performer for its claimed 82hp as it is. It is way powerful enough for its weight and size and generally 'punches above its weight'. What I found as it got older was that it tended to blow white smoke. A 2% infusion of Dexron2 in the fuel tank for a couple of fills cleared it up for another year or two every time on mine, which is still working well with over 10,000 hours on it. It was worked hard and the Hi-Lo and PTO clutches needed rebuilding at around 5000 hours, but has been fine since. Extra plates were put in either the Hi-Lo or PTO clutches, I can't remember which now.
Personally I wouldn't open one of these engines up further. If it proves to be under-powered as measured on a dynamometer, then the reason should be found and rectified. Iirc it should output near 80 at the shaft.

Further to clbarclay's reply, the injector pump off the 2130 engine sat on the shelf for several years before being put on a Massey 590 when its pump died. Fitted and worked perfectly. Does this qualify for either bodging or engineering. In addition 2130 engine parts are same as 6 cylinder Seran engine on a 985 combine. When the combine put a "leg out of bed" a piston and liner from the old 2130 block did the trick. Just had to buy a new head gasket and set of big-end bolts. Oh, and weld a patch on the side of the block. Did seven more seasons (400+ acres/year) after that.
