The guy next door to me has 13 cheviot/texel cross and two have gone down in the last 2 days with one or the other. One sheep was so flat i thought shed die. have treated with a shot of calcium under the skin and TLD drench just to be on the safe side. both are fine now.

Im fairly sure it was calcium deficiency with these two but what are the major differences as they are both quite similar

Hypocalcemia comes on suddenly can have a stiff walk , muscle trembles , go down onto chest often with back legs stuck out behind , responds very quickly to cal boro . TLD more progressive not eating , dull slow to get out of your way , teeth grinding , walking in big circles , looks like blind , weak and then goes down , slow response to cal boro & prop glycol . Cheviots and their x's are prone to hypocalcemia

Our vets are recommending giving twin lamb drench as well as calcium for HC, as 1 can lead to the other.

In addition, it is worth stressing that Propylene Glycol is the most cost effective treatment for Twin Lamb Disease. It is cheaper than the more expensive remedies, and it's cheapness means that you are likely to give a couple of repeat doses to give more chance of success.

Local feed mill will probably sell you 25l drum of propylene glycol for not much money, better than the tenner a shot twin lamb "remedies".
As to OP, if a subcutaneous CMP did the job, the level of deficiency is probably not too severe, getting them up quickly is key, and that can mean IV dose as well for that initial kick. Vet will put it in neck vein, milk vein is also effective in emergency, obviously with strict antiseptic precautions, when you cannot find jugular.
My experience tends to be, when the legs are straight out the back, the battle is already more than half lost.
