Who has used drainage pipe successfully to suck air through a grain heap ? not as pedestals but under a heap ?

if you did what size / spacing / fans did you use and under what kind of depth or tonnage ?

You'd want a sleeve over it to stop the grain getting in the slots. I've seen it done but can't tell you what the dimensions/fan/etc were. You'd want a very big fan for a long run of over 10 metres or the air will just take the path of least resistance. That's why I like pedestals.

why this fascination with Sucking. surely blowing is a lot easier ?
have tried blowing through twin walls. even increased slot sizes with an angle grinder.
bit of a faff really and emptying the store was no easier than above floor laterals. a lot of pipe got broken.
saw some telescopic ones somewhere, but a bit expensive.
far easier to use a central store or put in a homemade wooden floor if not too big an area.

Been doing this for twenty years at least, 300mm twin wall @ about 3.5m under the grain heap as it comes off the dryer, solid pipe on the last section, fan on the end to help cool the grain.

I’m putting a new store up for 2020 harvest, planning on putting the Martin lishman floor vent system in, every one I’ve spoken to so far, cereals etc, say you want to suck the moisture outside if you can, not blow it up into the roof space.

I've only used it as pedestals, works fine that way, can't see why it won't used as a lateral.
Finally found some useful controllers for the little fans.
£25 each and will run 2kw each , so quite a lot of 0.18kw fans possible on each.

A good extractor fan is essential
Yes and I think that’s also important for the floor vent system, to get good air into the barn, I was going to go pedestals but as I’m starting from scratch with the floor I think that floor vent system will be worth it, can’t justify an on floor drying as the prices don’t stack up for our farm.

You just have to be careful what make of twinwall you get I just use twinwall for osr no sleeves covers nothing

Not much experience with twinwall, but some makes of ordinary drainage pipe have much bigger/ smaller holes than others.
As I put earlier you have to be careful on which brand you use
was using some 4in twinwall once and it just had 2pairs of slots at either side rubbish stuff

I use above ground 300mm twinwall under short term stored spuds with no bother. I use pedestals in grain

Roughly 12' apart, spuds 10' deep.

They don't do differential temp control of the grain.
Set them on heat, and set the temp to whatever you wish, mine is currently on 5 degrees, when the air in the store is below this it runs, as soon as it's above it, it shuts off.
Very handy little things, been looking for ages for something similar, came across them entirely by accident.
