Twins

If a cow is scanned carrying twins what do you do differently?
Longer dry period?
Feed more cake during dry period?
Boluses/minerals?
More than usual here scanned with twins. Hate them. Always have trouble with the second cleansing. Every time the wife gave birth, the mid wife gave her a jag of oxytocin and cleaning came immediately. Could I do that after twins? No problems with ordinary calving.
Scanner man says he has one farm that estrumates cows if twins at scanning.

Definitely no extra cake, more cake in the last trimester means bigger calves as all spare energy gets directed to calf growth, emphasised when the cow is dry imo because they aren't producing milk or cycling so literally no where for the extra energy to go except into the calves

A calcium bolus would help, along with coline in the diet for the last 20 days, not sure about the oxytocin as haven't had enough experience there

Process here for twins is Kexxtone bolus 10 days before due date. Good quality minerals at dry off. Either bolus or liquid gold. Reviva at calving. BUT the biggest difference I've noticed in twins is keeping the cow on straw pen for the first 10 days until she is feeling on top of things after calving. Cows that went back to cubicles earlier than that, no matter how well they were going after twins always seemed to take a step back

Straw bed is good advice especially for older cows.

Ever use kexxtone bolus? Great for cows carrying twins. Couple of weeks before calving stick one in her.

That was always my intention but they always calf quick here. Too many ended up not getting them and too many disasters.
longer dry period helps I think
Do you kexxtone fat cows too? Il do fat cows, cows carrying twins and any other cows that have previously give problem at/after calving

My type of cow they rarely go fat🤦‍♂️. Last 2 I’ve used were on a 6th calver not long enough dry and flesh on light side. And a 2nd calver that milked for over 600days and carrying bit more condition than I’d be used to
