Tying in a wood burner to a central heating system?

Is there any way we can add a log burner with back boiler to our kitchen which could be tied into our heating system which is an oil fired combi boiler with a pressurised system? Boiler in the garage.

I’m sure iv been told before it can’t be done with a pressurised system but can anyone tell me why not/what we would have to change to achieve it.

Been in house 10 years, boiler was new then, house is pretty poorly insulated so we get through about 3000litres of kero a year maybe more. We have a log burner in sitting room but due to the shape of the room the heat doesn’t seem to travel far.

Want to keep the oil system as back up in the event we are away or unable to feed wood into a stove for any reason. Ample supply of firewood on farms seems daft not to make use of it.

No you can’t connect into a pressurised system an uncontrolled heat source. The above solution require changing the system to open vent with a header tank which my not be a problem. The disadvantage would be water pressure on the hot supply for things like showers.

Looking at this in a new house but with a heat exchanger cylinder which can be kept warm with grid and solar.
The combi is a sealed system but a back boiler needs a vent to let off steam or it would explode.
An option would be to have a dual system with the stove linked to 3 radiators in the main living living area and the combi to others areas which need occasional heat and for immediate hot water. Might have to have 2 radiators in living area in case the stove is not on.

Can you not run the woodburner unpressurised thro a neutraliszer into its own coil in a cylinder , whilst everything else remains presurised ?

I have an open vented wood burner and a pressurised oil central heating boiler combined but mine goes through a heat store cylinder. It is brand new but I wish I had gone for both vented and through a single cylinder with two coils. As soon as heating pump comes on the DHW disappears.

Thanks for replies, the Dunsley looks like the business and there looks to be a supplier near by, Will need to speak to them and see if they have and installer.

May be worth checking with HETAS on the connection to a pressured/sealed system, just before I stopped installing Wood burners there was something being looked at to allow it, not sure if it ever happened though

You simply add a double booster pump in the hot & cold pipe line, 3 bar for a real good shower.

We've had the system for about 25 years & combined with an oil fired boiler works very well, just be careful that you put rust inhibitor into the system because as the underfloor heating is the lowest point any crap circulating tends to accumulate in the underfloor pipework as we found out, we cleared ours by using an air compressor to blow through & blow the rubbish out of the closest bleed point.

Dont think the rules have changed. If you read the literature its not actually a boiler stove just an ordinary stove with an electric fan which redirects hot air into a heat exchanger. You might just as well put a thermocouple fan on the top of the stove to push the heat out into the room. Think I will stick with my Dunsley Yorkshire for my central heating and hot water.
