Tyre Kickers

Is the genuine dealer of machinery a thing of the past. I am fast approaching retirement so wishing to downsize the equipment I have. There is not a lot of normal farm auctions or machinery auctions due to covid so what do people do. Obviously I will put stuff on TFF and have already sold items but how do you weed out the tyre kickers. Has anyone used other routes or any suggestions as I have given up with ebay.

plenty sales on , have a proper sale ,unless you dont want all and sundry in yard ,do an on line ,through i bidder or similar
dont cherry pick off best stuff ,but sell me your best holder first😉

Looking at some online auction prices recently, and having bought out of one, I'd say it suits sellers quite nicely tbh.
I certainly wouldn't want to put good machines in a collective sale.

Not sure what I think if that, they seem to like buying a cultivator for £350 and retailing it for £3750... and yes, I know everyone needs a margin.
But they are apparently very good to deal with, so who knows?

Folks go crackers and pay crazy money at farm sales. Also, it's all over in a day. Advertising on FB / TFF is a world of agony.
I once tried selling a old pickup on Facebook got sick of all the messages people offering half and people not turning up to view it at agreed times

It would be hell trying to sell a entire farms worth of tackle that way..

I can think of a few recently retired people who just took everything to Penrith/ Carlisle machinery sales

To the point of how to spot a tyre kicker this is difficult and no method is infallible. Don’t judge the book by the cover…..
One lesson I work out whether the enquirer is the decision maker. We “sold” on FB a low value item to a chap, exchanged all details right up to postage. And the obligatory extra photos, even a video.
Then the call:
I have been speaking to the boss man , will it do this: yes it does
Will it do that : yes it does
Will it do the other: yes it does.
It has a small screen: yes it does, same as in the ad on FB.
I then said look, if you don’t want it that’s fine I can easily sell it elsewhere.
Ok thanks bye.
Boss man and my contact had same surname, so probably the dad said no to the son.
Half an hour time spent on him which I will never get back!
I agree with comments that a farm sale is still a great way to sell a lot of equipment though FB is great for low volume selling of unwanted gear.
