Tyre pressures

Just after a general pressure. Got 710's rear 600's front. Manager wants 20psi a round. I disagree. Something along the lines of 18/16. General use.

Manager's call, especially if they have had to sign off a premature replacement bill due to underinflation.

Depends on so many variables - mainly load, speed, tyre quality. 3 - 4 lugs on the ground with implements lifted on level firm ground isn't a bad starting point. Higher pressures for road work, lower pressures for field work. There is no such thing as "general use" if you are serious about reducing ground pressure.

If you have access to a weigh bridge and the tyre chart then set them where they're supposed to be set. If the manager can't be arsed then he's just drawing a wage, not managing.
Bet he would be bang on if it was his own land or money though...

Got 600/34's on front and 710/38's on the back, for road work on 22-23psi, field work 16-17.
Walls wernt good if went down to 10 for drilling as their old tyres..

There are so many different factors in tyres, you can't guess a pressure based purely on the width of the tyre. Diameter, profile, make of tyre have a bearing as well. As does load, speed etc.

But he is managing, he's said he wants 20 so he gets 20, if the op doesn't agree they could have a discussion about it but the manager is his boss, you cant just ignore him and do what you want. He may have very good reason for wanting 20.
Had plenty of farmers tell me to do things I haven't agreed with over the years, should I have ignored them and done my own thing?

Interesting take on management. Management does not need to be and should not be dictatorial. I do agree that you have to have the managers agreement on the tyre pressure.

I have a chart in each tractor worked out specifically for each one. It lists the common tasks and minimum inflation pressures for each situation.

Eg.
Grain trailers (with nose weight), 40 km/h, front 12 psi, rear 15 psi
Subsoiler with ballest, 30 km/h, front 12 psi, rear 17 psi
Trailer seed drill (no ballast), 30 km/h, front 10 psi, rear 10 psi
and so on

20 psi is a simple solution, KISS, presumably the manager hasn't just plucked that number out of thin air and has evaluated the pros and cons of adjusting pressures. Question it by all means but give their decisions due respect as well.
