I currently have 380/85/28 sized tyres on the front of my tractor and am going to change them to 420/28. Would changing the profile of the tyre to a 70 give and benefit for example speed, grip, how it feels on the road. Or would it do any harm with 4wd etc?

You need to find the spec sheets for the existing tyres and find out the rolling circumference of your tyre. Then match up a wider lower profile tyre to get a similar rolling circumference. Also check the width of your wheel rims, with the wider tyres recommended rim width. All the info is readily available online.

The correct size that should be on is 380 85 28. I have 12.5 inch wide rims

Check the rim widths to see if you can accomadate the wider tyres to begin with, then run the rolling circumference calc to select tyres that give you a 3-5% overdrive on the front axle.
Yes I can accommodate the wider tyres just about I will do that thanks

A BKT 420 70 28 is acceptable on a 12" to 14" wide rim, and the rolling circumference is within about 60mm of your existing size, the wear on your rear tyres will probably affect the ratio more than some 60mm on the front.
