Tyres

Had a head scratching week specing tyres for our new tractor

it's a 724 Fendt so has 42" wheels standard and of course I thought that was great as the 42" wheel being bigger would give us a bigger footprint and therefore more air and rubber under the tractor protection the soil

Seems I was wrong and now 38" wheels seem a much better bet - take a look at this

http://www.michelin-agricultural-tyres. ... IN-AXIOBIB

Im going to go with either 710/38 or the 800/38 (awaiting conformation on transport width with 800's) - the 38" wheel uses a much taller profile tyre so holds much more air letting it run at lower pressure for the same load compared to the 710/42

what do you think - have I got the choice right ? what tyres would you ideally want on your drilling tractor ??

You are thinking correctly bigger sidewalls bigger load at same bar but technology makes it a little bit difficult. For example 710/70x38 Michelin machxbib can take 3865kg at 1bar and 710/60x42 xeobib can take 4625kg at 1bar both same diameter 1950mm.
What is the highest tire you can fit and what load are you expecting to have.
Xeobib min bar 0.4
Axiobib min bar 0.8 in singels
So it is all about load and technology

I think Xeobibs are half price of axiobibs.

I have two tractors with same hight tyres, one 650/65 42 and the other 710/70 38. The 710 is a far better tyre and handles weight better at lower pressure.

latest on this is I cant spec the 724 on 38's from the factory it seems

so its coming on 710/42's and getting swapped to 38's by the dealer now I think !

the 38' hold near 400 L more air each

After all this it now seems that 38's won't fit under the arches of a 724

Need a 800 series to get enough space but with that comes more weight !

Looking like the 710 42's will be the only real option here with profile low enough to go under the arches

Why not xeobibs, they are smaller and run at similar pressures to the axiobibs, for the same weight?

Not rated for the power so Fendt won't warranty

Not sure they are much better air wise than the 42 710's either

The best tyre is the 710 /38 by a long way If you can fit them under your arch

Clive,

We used to run a JD 7920 on 800/70/38 tyres, great for flotation but not brilliant for traction.
I would go for a Xeobib in slightly narrower width if possible and just drop pressures right back for drilling /top work.
