I see Dr. Michael Ryan, in reference to quick unregulated opening up of even vaccinated countries, says it‘s an “exercise in epidemiological vandalism”.
Vandals of course are rightly outraged at being classified in the same category as Boris and company….

I wonder if the virus had put you in hospital if you'd be saying the same thing?
The virus didn't put me in hospital Charlie because the virus is not serious threat to anyone healthy.
The figures bear that out.
For those who are old or unhealthy the presence of the virus and it infecting 20 million people did not affect their existing survival risk.

Failed attempts to restrict the virus have added 5 million to waiting lists for other conditions and messed up the lives of countless other millions

The restrictions have been partially adhered to only by massively and temporarily enriching the population to get compliance.

Well the virus has killed half a million in Brazil. 2000 deaths per day. Health service in ruins. Not a very good advert for letting it roll before vaccinations are conplete.

Their "covid" deaths are the same as ours per capita so wouldn't surprise me if their mortality rates as unaffected as ours.
Hard to say for certain as they don't publish any that I can find.

What would be the figures for both deaths and waiting lists had we not had any restrictions?

Imho, the issue is can one trust our leaders past and present- i'm thinking Johnson and Hancock here - to make the 'right' decisions as the Covid issue evolves.
Economy over health or vice versa. Science over political desire or vice versa.
Our leaders in the UK got it very right with the vaccination roll out whilst other countries seemed to procrastinate. Full credit due for that.
However, the UK was and remains in a muddle with travel restriction policies, with destinations being switched back and forth from green/amber/red status, VIPs (eg G7 and UEFA delegates from wherever) being waved through while us plebs are not allowed, and a test and trace policy that has been creaky at best. We have had one of the worst death rates in the Northern hemisphere have we not?

Say that to a good friend of mine she lost her 47 year old mother and 23 year old brother both fit and healthy and her dad was in hospital for 5 weeks

Her mother played hockey on till she was 40 also ran marithons last in 2019
brother played football and rugby for local teams
I would be pretty sure there would have been an underlying possibly undetected condition. My 81 year old father picked it up in hospital and whilst unable to leave for two months because he was continually testing positive at no time did he display any symptoms. It's a bit luck of the draw..ish.

I don’t think it matters a jot if you are old or young it’s all down to your particular genetic makeup as to whether it is a cold or something far more serious!

Given that 97% of "deaths" are people over 60 and 97% of deaths are of those with previous serious underlying conditions I think age and healthiness are factors.

Though I would agree that other factors in play, just like with any illness
E.g.the amount of virus you initially get infected with.
Whether you inhibiting you immune system by for example drinking alcohol on the day you catch it.
Whether you realise you are ill and rest to allow your body to concentrate on your immune response.

As I said genetic makeup has far more to do with it, you only have to see the differing reactions to the vaccine injections to see that, to try & pretend it’s no different to a cold is being naive to say the least

How do varying reactions to a novel type of vaccine prove anything about the relative harmfulness of a virus?

If we all had exactly the same genetic makeup we would all react to the vaccine in the same way, I would have thought that was pretty obvious!
Yes I agree genetics will affect how you react to anything but how does your reaction to a novel type of vaccine prove one virus is more or less harmful than another?
