UK going back to work

BBC today:

Introducing social distancing at airports is "physically impossible", the boss of Heathrow has warned.

"Social distancing does not work in any form of public transport, let alone aviation," John Holland-Kaye said.

But the chief executive of Europe's busiest airport said airports will have to introduce health-screening and passengers will have to wear masks.

However, the GMB union said the airport must enforce social-distancing to protect staff and passengers.

The union said workers fear contracting the coronavirus from passengers returning from countries where Covid-19 is prevalent. In the past two weeks three GMB members working at Heathrow have lost their lives to the coronavirus.

In a separate interview, with the BBC, Mr Holland-Kaye said that until a coronavirus vaccine could be developed, airports would have to introduce measures to minimise infection once lockdowns started to ease.

"This might include some kind of health screening as you come into the terminal so that if you have a high temperature, you may not be allowed to fly," he said.

"As you go through the airport, you will probably be wearing a face mask, as people from Asia have been doing ever since Sars (virus) came out."

Ryanair chief Michael O'Leary backed the call for temperature checks. "Anybody with a temperature of over 38 degrees will be refused entry," he told the BBC.

Meanwhile, EasyJet has suggested it could leave the middle seats on its planes empty when flights resume.

No easy answers for aviation.

Wouldn’t bother me about getting on a plane ever again....seeing as I’ve managed to avoid ever setting foot on one this long....plenty to see in this country without getting into a virus laden Tin can in the sky
Agree there is lots to see in the UK but just imagine all the extra people trying to see them if no one went abroad, would be very crowded

Air travel never appealed to me either. It’s tiresome. I can honestly say there’s nowhere I’d rather be than at home in Britain anyway.
A lot of people are wearing things out looking for something they will never find.

I definitely found what I was looking for here. For many years I felt a square peg in a round hole in leics. However my family chose to stay in the uk. It’s all been fine and we’ve seen each other often as it was. Looking from a selfish perspective, I find the thought of hardly seeing my family anymore horrific .
Simple eg, I have a primary school age grand daughter, the plans were, she was going to start having long (circa 5 week) summer holidays here.

Whilst there are absolutely great places in the uk, there are also fantastic places and cultures to see all over the world. There are simply some things you cannot do or see in the uk that you can abroad.

Once the kids have grown up I hope to be able to see much more of the world, I thoroughly enjoy travelling, and seeing / learning new things. I have been lucky enough to see plenty European cities, i really want to go further afield, America, China, Japan, NZ and South America are all on my bucket list.

If you do make it to China, I recommend that you visit Central China.
There is this one city, it doesn't seem to get many overseas visitors. I don't know why. There is a great little food market there. The people that work there are friendly, they even take their pets to work. Although some of them seem to be a little 'hot headed'.The food is 'to die for' there. You have got to try their mini-chicken. They sell them with their whole with their wings still on.
The name of the place is Wuhan.

Thankfully the world is full of people with different likes and interests. If our species didn't include people who like to explore and to innovate we would all still be living in caves somewhere in Africa.

Same here, only been on a light aircraft that was enough for me, no desire to set foot on another plane & never had a passport & never needed or wanted one, I’ve still plenty to see in this country to last me my life time.....I still haven’t been to Scotland yet well just been a few miles over the border when staying in Northumberland, another beautiful part of the U.K.

They also eat rats and all sorts all over the world. Not my cup of tea at all, but not so long ago things we don't eat now were common place on UK tables. Pigeon often referred to as a flying rat, rabbits and even whale meat were common meals during WW2 in the UK. It was survival, and what animals people will consider eating as food will change across the world, depending on how hungry they are.
