I cannot disagree and think that much of the popular support was because the first gulf war was not driven through to a conclusion. In other words Saddam was let off the hook and then continued to wind up Bush and the west. In a way he got his desserts but Bush and Blair realised quite early on that the force being used to implement regime change were not justified and then involved themselves in a big cover up to save face. I still do not believe that the UK weapons inspector who was found dead in mysterious circumstances actually committed suicide unless under immense pressure to shut up.I know you don’t want to hear it, BUT, when Blair made his false case for war in Iraq, he failed to convince a very large cohort of his own government party, who voted against his motion in the Commons.
But not to worry, the Tories and DUP, were never going to miss out on the chance to go to war. It was they who enabled Britain’s illegal war, along with Blair of course.
Just sayin….
Cross party and popular support was only maintained because it was buoyed along by a tissue of lies as Blair and Bush sought to justify their actions.
