UK Norway power line.

Do you really want to be involved with such a left wing socialist country?
Norway is a free and fully functioning democracy, it's nothing to do with us what government its people choose. It's not like, ooh let's have a think... China under the CCP, a brutal and aggressive totalitarian dictatorship - now, cosying up to that lot would be immoral. (y)

What, like NZ?
I’ve lost count of the number of times I have been to Norway, it would be at least 15, we have many long standing family friends there and my father spoke Norsk fluently, I have a reasonable understanding of what makes Norway tick, it is a fantastic amazing country with many similarities to NZ, they both have fairly egalitarian societies, the people are friendly and quite laid back, politically Norway runs along Socialist lines, they are in the unique position of being able to afford to, whereas New Zealand under the current regime is heading towards a marxist state.

As Norway is in the EEA it is subject to a significant number of EU directives and regulations and pays almost as much per capita as the UK did for full membership.

Finlandization; noun: Finlandisation
  1. the process whereby a country is induced to favour, or refrain from opposing, the interests of a more powerful country, despite not being politically allied to it (originally with reference to the influence of the former Soviet Union on its neighbour Finland).

I'm very familiar with the term, but did not understand what 'Just do what Finn's have done with communists in the past.' was supposed to mean about behaviour of Finns. Communists, communist states?

Norway`s wealth is not only in huge natural energy sources but renewable energy in abundance in relation to its population. In other words its natural wealth is public wealth and that permits their government to administer along more socialist lines. That is not so in the UK and hardly the situation in NZ, although they have an abundant supply of hydro power and a very small population. Comparing our three countries and expecting similar outcomes is ludicrous.

Norway's very different approach to its oil reserves (the sovereign wealth fund) was fundamentally different from the UK approach. The non-academic summary would be, 'we blew it'. But I would agree in part that expecting the UK to act in the same altruistic manner as Norway is ludicrous.

I gather you are about to defend them because you have all the answers but are seldom right.

I know you don’t want to hear it, BUT, when Blair made his false case for war in Iraq, he failed to convince a very large cohort of his own government party, who voted against his motion in the Commons.
But not to worry, the Tories and DUP, were never going to miss out on the chance to go to war. It was they who enabled Britain’s illegal war, along with Blair of course.
Just sayin….

At least there was a debate and vote on it.
Much different to a population who enable a bunch of terrorists to wreck havoc.
