EU paperwork holding up exports.....no grain samples taken .....just got to have right paperwork........feck the EU is twatish institution

I also believe that there is an issue with railway gauge (85mm difference between EU and Soviet era) so there has to be off loading at the border.

I also note that there are moves afoot to open a "safe corridor" from Odessa to the Mediterranean using UK and other warships but reliant on (1) Russia playing ball (2) Turkey allowing passage through the bosphorus which is currently closed to warships

Maybe so but our own Home Office is hardly making it easy for Ukrainian refugees to get visas... just got to have the right paperwork...Feck the UK is a twatish institution.

I will for sake of brevity just post one link - but I could post thousands demonstrating the prevarication of the UK government on this issue.

If that idea materialises, lets hope for the sake of mankind ,that someone on one of the warships, which ever side they are on , doesn’t get “trigger happy”!!!!
The consequences would not be good to put it mildly.

I very much doubt Russia would play ball in any case. We are already fighting a proxy war through supply of weapons. Putting warships in to the Black Sea would be seen as a step too far (though I suspect one of our subs is there)

Interesting that the local ex farm price has halved....
I guess if a commodity can’t be moved in a war torn country there is not going to be many overseas buyers.I assume that is why the ex farm prices around the rest of the world are high, due to the shortage of Ukrainian grain , “available to the market now”.

Read today some African countries are getting desperate and considering taking extra risks with shipping in order to access Ukrainian wheat... Russia may even facilitate safe passage for some as a PR move to bolster Pro-Russia, anti-west sentiment on the African continent... Putin is a fool but he is not an idiot.

If that is comes about , it will be interesting to see how that works out.

Putin knows the West is "Duty Bound" to help Africa.

Don't be surprised if Putin just lets natural events happen - Globalism is a Western problem created by Western politicians.

Russia will have their own 2022 wheat harvest to sell/export. Middle East I guess.
Suppose they can still use the Baltic or Caspian seas if the Black sea is out of bounds.

Turkish attitude to facilitating exports is key?

It's his main leverage. The war continues, he controls the flow of food. West will have to lift sanctions or give him something if they want to feed Africa.

Putin will feed Africa but one way or other be making the West pay for it......

I am confident that without Globalism we would surely have already experienced World War III, well managed it is a solution not a problem...... Like it or not most European nations would have no access to many minerals resources essentials for modern technologies if it was not for global trade.

i was 'warming' back to the EU and i concede the uk has not done well on ukranian refugees....BUT....those refugees have at least got into safety of europe ....credit EU or just poland that has been A1 from outset......AND holding up grain exports is hardly any help to ukraine and risks starving millions elsewhere

i saw the issue of rail sizes baldrick but surely poland has got soviet era railways......begging the question why cannot grain get to baltic ports and onto ships that way :scratchhead:
