wht would a dealer give a service stamp away ?

more than their franchise worth if ever caught i expect
I knew a mechanic who worked at a large Land Rover/Range Rover dealership. They were under a lot of pressure to complete services in a set time. At the time, the dealership only had one machine for replenishing the suspension system on the new Range Rovers. If it was in use, the job just wasn't done on machines in the que due to time pressures. Obviously it was stamped up as having had a full service. Proper rip off, but how would you know?

They always service ours on farm. Hope I would notice if they missed something.

For once I agree with Clive. Our dealer seems to assign a tractor a mechanic and to be fair to the mechanics, they seem to take pride in the tractor and look after it.

We get decent guys out to service them too. Not a apprentice or the mechanic that can't do anything else.

The dealer mechanics have saved us quite a bit of money/time. Finding problems known to them before they fail completely and putting them through on warranty.

Once warranty out, we do 600 hour service ourselves and dealer does 1200 though.

Funk was bought by Deere around 30 years ago if I remember correctly. I just can't remember when the 30 series power shifts were made and I only recall ever having a short demo in the later Genesis series which were made by Versatile in Canada for Ford.
Funk sold that transmission to several Ford rivals, including AGCO which matched it to a David Brown back axle and Cummins engine and sold it as an AGCO Allis and Massey Ferguson plus iirc as a White.

ford owned the versatile plant and built the genesis for themselves.
The plant and versatile name were sold because of the cnh merger.
Genesis tractors were then marketed as buhler versatile and later just versatile.
Genesis name stayed with cnh which they now use for the t8 range

I had a new quad bike a couple of months ago and asked in good time for its first service to be done. It was finally done a month later and 100 miles, double the recommended mileage overdue. If I was doing it myself it would have been done within the day, but the first service was 'free' and they insist on it being done by the dealer for warranty reasons. It was just a simple oil and filter change plus a check over plus I wanted the front tracking adjusted because it was delivered with a 2cm toe out.
We bought 2 quad bikes together because the last 2 got stolen the first dealer service was over 450 for the pair o_O:rolleyes::rolleyes: doesn’t sound expensive compared to tractors but the service kits can be had for £40-50

I think those doppstadt tractors have issues.. if they were reliable then they would have been popular as the mb’s were. The merc engine should be good, as should be the zf box but I seem to remember something about a bearing going in at the clutch somewhere and electrical gremlins. Real shame they never caught on as the mb’s really were needing an Powershift upgrade in the transmission department. I guess the success of the mb Trac is simplicity crossed with quality.. You can take the battery out and carry on driving if you have to...
This a modern version of mb turbo tractor ?

Indeed AGCO oil in the UK comes from Morris of Shrewsbury but the factory fill is with BP for French built tractors.

Is The Right to Repair going through in America? I somehow doubt it. Big names, primarily John Deere and Apple have been lobbying vigorously and consistently against it.
It'll go through eventually, it already exists in Europe thankfully.

Yea, but not built by Mercedes.. doppstadt seemed to build in quite a few flaws then quickly failed at backing up the tractor. I looked a them before buying the mb1500 but everyone advised against them for a machine to put to hard work. Poor backup and quite a bit to go wrong. The mb’s can be fixed by most people and they are as tough as nails to start with..

Yes Clive is extremely nieve to believe that dealers do everything they say. Its been proven before that dealers haven't changed everything they say they have. I bought a 2nd hand 4x4 once with full dealer service history. 1st time I serviced it myself it was clearly evident that the fuel filter had never been changed with 56000 miles and approx 5 years old!

no more naive than anyone believing a farmer serviced a machine ! ...... because he said he did

Given choice I will trust the dealer which risks his franchise is ever caught cheating thanks

dealer serviced cars are worth more used, and tractors should be as well

I’m not naive as I wouldnt believe farmer or dealer unless I knew them well enough know what they would and wouldn’t do. I personally wouldn’t pay more for a stamped service history as it’s not worth the paper it’s stamped on.

That is a bit of a broad statement as a lot of us on here look after our own machinery servicing and repairs and may do a more thorough job than the main dealer employee that is rushing to finish at 5 o'clock because he possibly wants to go out on the beer and has to finish the service in an allotted time.

Dealer serviced tractors should ! be worth more but dealers should! carry servicing out using fully trained mechanics but I know of some that put first year apprentices on servicing and not on older stuff either but it seems to be that things are going along the same lines as car dealerships in that they plug in read a code and bolt on the offending part, there aren't too many engineers out there any more, there are not many that strip and rebuild engines and transmissions etc ,
