Ultra shallow cultivation

I have looked at the Inverta. How do you control the working depth of the disc’s? By the rear packer? How shallow will it go?
We have an inverta max and it has depth wheels on the front . Doesn’t need that much power our 6210r can pull the 6m easily .

Cousins surface cultivator or a Horsch Joker/cruiser depending if you want a disc or tine. Even with a good packer on the back I always roll after a shallow pass with our Simba Xpress, the difference it makes is unbelievable for very little cost and time.

I think @TWF has or had a Tillso Rake and Roll
I only use my Tilso rake and roll after the Claydon Hybed drill on osr crop while also applying slug pellets. It does this job very well.
We also have a reconditioned 820 Vaderstad Carrier with cross cutters. It does a good job making a very shallow pass if you wanted to get a chit and disturb slug eggs. But we hardly use it now as we are direct drilling most things and using more cover crops. Less is best at the moment.

We are also looking for a shallow cultivator for spring crops and maybe incorporating FYM
Going to demo a Claydon Terrastar but think we need something with a packer and would like to try a Carrier with cross cutter discs.
Would likely be looking at second hand and most of the Carriers for sale are standard straight discs, how shallow could you run the one you use and still make a good job

Also looking for a set of discs at the moment. Have enquired about the proforge inverta. I see you can get a normal cutaway discs or what they call the topstir disc. Anyone using the topstir disc, are they better for shallow working? Also does anyone know what a 4m mounted weighs?

It is, does a real nice job working shallow, but yikes, it's it expensive.
I came to exactly the same conclusion

Planning to use my Dale drill as a stubble cultivator where shallow tillage is require.
But then again I’m not sure shallow tillage is required....
None or lots depending on the circumstances

Carrier crosscutter is the tool imo - does more than a rake but importantly leaves stubble and roots attached so your are not disturbing biological networks

used shallow they don’t need much power and can cover big areas fast

with a front cross cutter roller you can run very shallow

or you can fit the cross cutter discs to one for similar results
