Umbilical slurry

The owner of our farm is looking into building a new 200 cow cubical shed with lagoon and is keen to go to sand bedding, as I'm in charge of the machinery side of the business I'm looking for some insight of how this will affect our umbilical system. I've heard some really bad horror stories about how the sand basically destroys pumps, pipes etc and about having to constantly dig out sand from the pits. Our setup is just a small one with 1200m of 4inch pipe, storth dribble bar and a doda l35 pump, any input would be much appreciated.

Make a 3-4 tier weir system to capture the sand.
This one below is at a water treatment facility down the road from me. Track alongside and their around 20’x15’ so that a tracked digger can dredge them out when they need to.
Put the lagoon after.
