Un cut linseed

I remember combining linseed catching it when we could right up to Christmas Eve one year, it was a really wet year in the late 80's early 90's. I had done around 2500 acres, well paddled across that amount of ground with the combine running ;)

Had to deliver a load of hay about 18 miles from home in an area that I know and contract spray in but have nt been that way for 4 months and was very surprised to see a couple fields of un cut linseed and two more which were partly done ! Still standing but would think its a write off . Any other un cut combinables around the country ??
PS there is also 20 acs of straw in rows [ if you can call it that] in another direction I pass often !
70acre pf soyabeans still standing if it would hurry up an come a decent spell of frost we will get hopfully

I think the straw you have mentioned is in fields next to the main road, there is quite a bit more, out of sight!

A think we are just lucky they havnt went mouldy yet, but unless it comes a frosty spell the only thing they will see is the topper the ground there own gonna take a hell of a drying out

I have a hectare of June (twice re)drilled ‘wild bird seed crop’ that is mostly Spring Barley that I had a look at today. The straw has rotted and fallen over and there’s bugger all seed left there for any hungry birds over the winter. Surely combining crops still about now will be in the same condition, or have some not had the rain we’ve had?

Presumably late linseed combines fairly easily and the straw chops ok?

UInless it has changed in the 15 years since I used to grow (a lot) of it, then No.

It is an absolute barsteward to deal with as the plant starts the "retting" process and becomes even more like a mile and half of pig netting... I abandoned one crop one year as I was getting the area payment and the actual price for what seed was left was barely going to cover the combining costs!!

Getting rid of it was also a pig, I could not get the Browns straw chopper/flail to top or cut it. In the end, I did a couple of passes with heavy discs which didn't really chop the stuff much as it was too wet underfoot, but the rolling process helped to get it ploughed under.... eventually.

The bonus was the standing crop in the field provided food for thousands of small birds!!
