Unannounced FA visits

I had a similar letter and thought it was a good idea.
The way I read it, for a monthly fee, they would spend a half day a month helping you get paperwork up to date and inform you of any relevant changes that might affect farming in general.
I still couldn't justify the expense but for many one man bands like me, it seemed a pretty viable proposition and I was pleased to think someone offered such a service.

As i understand it, unannounced inspections are only going to take place on farms with a lot of or serious non conformances, as a follow up visit, not for the standard inspection.
Even then I don’t think they’re going to be totally unannounced, I believe there will be a phone call immediately prior to an unannounced inspection, after all, most of us aren’t around the yard at all times and I don’t think they’re allowed to go snooping around on their own.

It sounds like this company are praying on farmers dislike/fears of farrm assurance.

I’d get that lot in writing!!! Just wait until they’re self funding with fines for non conformities. Don’t give them an inch because they’ll taking the fcking lot.

Had a letter today from a firm warning that this was being brought in and offering a Pre-Inspection Health Check to make sure you will be compliant should you be inspected.
They are offering one health check per year and will attend the Farm Assurance Audit.
The fee is £65 per month plus VAT for the full service but can be tailored to suit your needs.
This is how I read it, maybe I'm missing something as that's one hell of a charge.

And surely part of farm assurance rules is that all farm visitors are accounted for. How is that possible if they turn up unannounced and snoop around?

we had a visit, unannounced, from the planning enforcement b#####s, they had added 2+2 and made 10, turns out they were after someone with same surname, all to do with unliscensed quarrying, but they were really nasty. anyway they refused to wash/disinfect etc, this was in the last f and m outbreak, as really peed off, made a formal complaint. the answer- they can go where, when, whenever they want, they are not required to follow any biosecurity, and I was lucky they had false info, or I would have been prosecuted !
I understand, that by signing up to red tractor, you are giving them the same powers, except c and d,
we had our annual last week, best we have ever had, 1 minor.

Wrong
The planning enforcement officer is a local government authority.
Red tractor is a voluntary assurance scheme. We are allowed to refuse them entry (same way the normal assessor makes an appointment) if they turn up unannounced.
I am not saying they can't turn up with an appointment, they can. They just can't turn up without one.

This wouldn't have been us, we certainly do not charge that much! We also offer a lot more than just a pre-inspection walk around the farm. We don't often attend the inspections unless our client really wants us there as our service is to help the client keep the record-keeping in order without risking any NC. If anyone is interested in our services they're welcome to contact our office and speak to someone from the Farm Assurance department.
