Unconventional milking times

Growing up we milked 2:30 and 2. It was a long day but the cows were in the 11500 liter range. I think you do have to have a decent interval length at the higher yields.

at the current place we milked 2 and 2 for my first 18 months here. The herd sizes somewhat dictated that. Then went to 3 am and 2. Now we milk 4:30 am and 2 pm. It changes throughout the year depending on herd size and stage of lactation.

Rumor has it that somewhere locally has apparently dropped back from 3x milking to milking every 10 hours.

It looks like it could be hard to organise staff for.

Bloody hell, I thought every 16 hours was confusing.
Why do people keep thinking up ways to make the job more complicated? :banghead:

Just.....why?
Surely it’s easier to milk 3x than find staff to milk at midnight every 3rd day.

I heard years ago that 10hrs was the optimum time to milk a cow in terms of production, not sure how much truth is in it. Would need plenty of reliable staff to keep it going.

Sounds absolutely horrific

It may just be relief milker rumour. It wouldn't be the first time the truth had been slightly stretched and information is passed from relief to relief.
