" Understanding the motivations of small and very small farms "

It's because they can't, literally can't be removed while they have their hands on the purse-strings and spend so much around Cardiff and the Valleys. It's a Catch-22, and that's a bloody good reason for seeing the back of the whole thing. :(

So are the elections in Wales a farce then - akin to simply a case of buying your votes..

Hmmmm........WG doing a survey over the next few weeks on the above. In other words, why the fudge are small farmers still here after doing our very best to get rid of them for the last 40 years.
If they dare contact me, I'll say I'm still at it cos I like driving elderly Ford tractors. :) 🖕🖕🖕

Honestly, what a load of fudgeing rubbish.:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
Looks to me as if they are giving employment to people who have been educated beyond their natural intelligence, and they probably stick them in the Agric. Dept to get them out of harm's way !!.

When I first saw this thread line I thought maybe the NFU was trying to broaden it's outlook and take and interest in some of its membership , never mind .

I like messing about with elderly Renaults and Lamborghinis. The rest of the job is a bit of a nuisance, especially the woolly things, forms and nosey parkers with clipboards. Having to actually grow something and sell it is a bit inconvenient as well. I like to be able to stop for a cuppa exactly when I like as well, rather than when somebody else says so. That’s worth about a million in itself.
nicole must be getting on bit now !! and ive never been able to afford a new car or even a fendt but you are right independence is worth a lot

Everything is open to interpretation; but the fact remains that there is disproportionately more money spent in Cardiff and the Valleys.
ur prob right about cardiff but the valleys are desolate since all the work in the mines wasnt replaced, west wales have done ok,how many tb cows have have the welsh assembly paid over £10k for over the years

A fortune has gone into the valleys! As for £ for cows, don't know the total, but there's a place near Whitland that must have a nigh on £1m... horrible people too.

I suggest as per Trump look at the number of postal votes. As someone who as a boy stuffed vote envelopes for my uncle, not the candidate I may add.
The secret is the old folks homes for starters, think about it. Secondly now why is there to my mind a disproportionate number of Asian councillors and MPs'.
Because daddy ####i gets them all signed fills in the box and posts them.
If you need evidence of that in a recent Scottish election it was declared 10 days before the election that they had a new scanner that could detect multiple votes. 30% of postal votes were not returned. If you went to the hassle of applying for a postal vote why would you not use it?????? Postal votes should only be for those unable to attend, forces etc and checks should be carried out on old folks homes.

As above.

I know of someone with a few acres who has a output in the £ millions ........ equally, I know someone who farms 000s of acres but barely scratches a living.

What I do know for certain is that this "initiative" was dreamt up by a keyboard warrior sitting behind the wheel of a computer in a warm office.

There are literally hundreds of threads on this forum about farmers that won't release control to their sons and daughters, farmers that haven't put in a succession plan and numerous threads from those that desperately want to get into farming, those that want more security than yearly grass lets, those that are fed up with the highly skewed prices of ewe lambs.

So what is wrong with a Government asking farmers 'what would it actually take for you to f**k off out of the way so those with more ideas and enthusiasm can take over'?

The answer is probably nothing. Their land is their pension. Their farm is their whole life. They fear losing the slightest bit of control. But surely there is nothing wrong with a Government asking the question?
