Unique Trike Stolen.

If only your example was an isolated incident! Can anyone on here offer an example of police response to rural crime (especially where travelers are involved) that they were satisfied with?

We had a spate of break-ins last year and the police reaction was varied from "just get your insurance to deal with it" to "there's nothing we can do".

You're also right about having to do your own detective work. We had 2 tons of bagged cattle feed stolen from a shed (open fronted like many feed stores and barns so the initial police reaction was a shoulder shrug). Also suitable for horses so we had a pretty good idea where it had gone. Sure enough some empty branded bags started appearing near an illegal grazing site. Photo were taken and police informed.

THREE MONTHS later the police called saying they were visiting the grazing site but could see no evidence!

In the meantime we had found multiple witnesses who had seen a particular traveller with the feed and a farmer who was a victim of fly-grazing confronted him with the feed in his van. This traveler is well known locally as the King Gypsy of the local site and has been implicated in numerous frauds, thefts and coursing. There's even a video of him on youtube bragging about his illegal gambling ring betting on dogs and hares.

The police response to my evidence was "we're waiting for him to do something bigger to put him away for longer!"

When is something going to be done?
Something will only be done when the generally law abiding victims reach the end of their teather. Once they snap and fight back, the shoulder shrugging, claim off your insurance we can’t deal with it police will be all over them like a rash.

I had to have my gun cabinet inspected a while back.It is up in the loft, the copper was so fat he couldn't fit through the loft hatch, he popped his head up through and said it's fine, but I egged him on telling him he needs to check it's secure against the wall. Mrs had to intervene as she thought I was gonna get sent off in the car with the amount of sh!t I was giving him.
I believe if your in a service like that, you need to be in some sort of shape.

Bit like the story of the man being broken into who called the police only to be told they didn’t have anyone available to respond.

A minute later he rings them back telling them not to worry, he’d shot the burglars.

Within minutes several cop cars arrived and caught the burglars as they made their escape, an angry Cooper bellowed “I thought you said you’d shot them” to which the man replied I thought you said you’d got nobody available to respond.

Have they really not
Update.

Hooray! I’ve received a call from W.Mids police. Thanking me for my email received yesterday, in which I asked for an update on what has been happening in my case and has there been any progress.

To cut a long story short, nobody seems to have any details of the crime. No record of two emails sent or three phone calls when I have actually had a conversation with somebody in their camp. No record of the possible sightings or of the reg. numbers of suspicious vehicles and their occupants. No record of a crime reported eight days ago, except that something had been filed straight into a database. The reason for that is because I failed in not having any cctv on my premises.

In short, yesterday’s email asking for an update came as a bit of a surprise to them. Chap I spoke to would circulate a description of the vehicle to officers. Eight days after the theft.

Lost my temper and told them if ever they need help at any time not to bother expecting any from me.

What a completely disappointing and demoralising experience.

I am amazed by this! So even in light of the recent sightings and potential for finding CCTV evidence of it, they won't go and collect the evidence? That really is not good. I'd be seriously hacked off.

I wonder if it would be worth making it even easier for them and walking up the High Street, where it was spotted and asking who has cameras that may be pointing towards the road at that time. They won't show you the footage but if you give them the timing of the sighting they will probably save that footage for the police for you. I suspect they will be on a week loop so you'd need to do that pretty quickly. Once you have a list of suitable cameras, surely the police can just go get the footage and get an view of the rider?

That’s all been done already, I did it last Monday. Spent all morning asking businesses including the nearest bank, building society, garage and pub who all said they would look and show the police if asked.

I then went into town on Thursday morning because the town PCSO is always about on Thursday market day. The stall holders said I won’t find him because it’s raining. He never shows when it’s raining.

The whole lot of them have been nothing but a let down.

I think I would consider tweeting it. Tweet a picture, copy WestMids police or Warkspolice (whichever it is) and ask what is happening.... could TFF do that? Something like - "Interested to know why WestMids police haven't followed up on sightings of this trike - despite CCTV being available"

Whilst I’m quite fed up with the lack of response, I’m realistic. They’re overstretched and although I had the bike behind lock and key I could have done more. Just how much more constitutes secure I don’t know.

I’m more angry with WHY they didn’t do anything. I doubt they’re lazy, they just don’t have the resources.

Humberside Police are just the same.
One of the sites where our sheep offal was dumped had CCTV. The factory manager even downloaded all his footage for them. They collected it but wouldn't look through it as they said 'There was too much to look through'.

We offered to look through it for them but they wouldn't let us as they said it was 'against data protection rules' :banghead::banghead::banghead:

It has appeared on TFF on Facebook.

Yes I saw it. It was asking people to look out for it. I was thinking that Twitter could give leverage to get them to answer as to why they haven't done anything about it, despite having potential CCTV. Maybe it isn't fair to do this to an overstretched police force but it just seems so unjust.

They could still do something
