Worrying times when all Children enrol and start their further education and travel from all around the Country?

Better get yourself in that bunker old fella. I have a pallet of tinned goods, bottled water and shotgun cartridges surplus from my Brexit D day stockpile. I can ship it to you!? Also have a stock of haz mat suits too.

Cheers:)

It is no ideal.
Different approaches at different ones and some rather late decisions being made by institutions.
St Andrews was to be offering face to face work but only just changed this to online on Wednesday.
Daughter off to Glasgow with no visiting other households, but thousands of young folk mixing.

Well my daughter is off to Bath. Government hasn't mentioned refunding her the £9k fee. Looks like she will have all or mostly online contact with lecturers. Not small tutorials. She tells me the landlord on the house share she has with some friends hasn't reimbursed the deposit nor cancelled the rent direct debit. Says its a contract for the year whether used or not. So she is off to enjoy her final year. Already had her placement year beggared by China Flu. Us oldies - just keep inside and away. There you go.

Lot of Americans have rolled up and are doing 2 weeks of quarantine, not so sure about other nationalities.
Whilst it will be a different experience from what they may have anticipated I have told my daughter just to go and make the most of it in current circumstances.

We are worried sick also as live in Countryside, not or very rare been by strangers not from area ,all year and vulnerable parents etc.
Kids worked hard all year ,then exam fiasco, through that and now College and Uni.
That can not state timetables, online or actual days in ,Accommodation availability and procedures etc etc ??
All like "how long is a piece of string", approach right through?

My Son is off to Manchester on Monday to drop off his stuff in his new house he will be sharing with five others and they are meeting up to draw lots for the rooms then he will be back to Lincoln to load some machinery into containers for me. His sister is off to London on Monday and will come back to help her brother. She has been back and forwards a bit sorting out her flat and visiting friends. Surprisingly enough they haven’t managed to infect my 80 year old father who they have been caring for during this fiasco. It’s time for them to get on with their lives.

Good luck to her! Our youngest is finishing this year. All of our kids, including her, reckon they could have got their masters in 3 years rather than 4 “easily”. University seems overpriced for them, especially considering the extortionate amount of rent and interest charged. As for Covid the real risks lie in the low paid sectors, such as the care industry, of the economy rather than universities. Still let’s defend the right of the “free press” to do the scapegoating for our incompetent leaders.

Sorbonne is operating as normal ,except administration even slower than normal. Masks and hand sanitising obligatoire . Daughters induction week has gone as scheduled. Paris is going about its business with plenty of Police/ Military about. Anyone not wearing a mask in the railway station is instantly stopped and dealt with. Sapeurs there with free masks if you want some.

Oh well.
It has happened, my daughter has tested positive along with a few hundred others at her student accommodation in Glasgow.
She is no feeling to bad, and naturally l hope there are no longer term effects.

Being slightly cynical on 2 points.

1. No pool testing on arrival of students.
2 Question if they actually need to have all first years there at all.

She is studying medicine, yes ironic. There was a bit of debate prior to departure on how they may manage student groupings, and the response looks suboptimal. Some students need to be there arguably medics for reasons of nature of course. At this time I forsee her and her cohorts possibly having to do 6 years of study due to lack of practical work even at this early stage.

Now I am not stupid and a number of universities are financially stressed and the hall fees are fairly important to cash flow, and arguably subsidise a number of capital intensive courses ie medicine, but not having say a washing machine in every flat unit looks pretty dim at the present.

It could of course be a big herd immunity exercise....

Hope everyone else's kids are fine.
