Really, you mean South Shropshire Ludlow constituency, the Tory party stronghold where Philip Dunne has a majority of over 19000 and over 62% of the electorate voted for him? You mean that Lib land? For the first fifty years of my life, I had never even met anyone who would admit to voting Liberal, in fact I can't remember ever having even seen an election poster. So it was a bit of a shock to find that on moving to the English/Welsh border, we had moved to Lib Land!
However, it didn't take long to realise that their oft' repeated mantra of "We don't want to tell anyone what to do" really means " We're not having ANYONE telling us what to do"
The only time it wasn’t Tory was when Gill retired and Tory head office tried to push someone from outside the constituency (London) into the seat. Voters all rebelled and voted for the Much Wenlock councillor Matthew Green. He lost in 2005 when Ludlow councillor Dunne stood against him.
Voting in Green was something Ludlow should be very proud of. The plan of parties parachuting people in to safe seats is an odious practice and anti-constituency politics.
