Have you shifted many diggers? Doesnt sound like you have done much with diggers if you are amazed that a 13 tonner can slide around in the wet
Amazed a 13 tonner slides about...definitely the type who would sh!t themselves when the digger goes over the balance point on the low loader and slips a bit:LOL:or fecking off backwards down a greasey hill when the tracks are full of gutter:nailbiting:

Tracks were full of gutters on our three tonner one day, was coming off the low loader and she slid off and the tracks were straddling the ramps :ROFLMAO: yea backwards downhill is usually hairy, glad our 60 has the blade for that very reason :ROFLMAO:

If it won't stop in a hurry it shouldn't be on the road. As for reading the road what happens when you meet a car overtaking on a corner? Stuff happens, you need to assume the worst could happen, not that it will all be fine.
what happens? You hit the brakes and slow down rubber tracked digger wont shift far (y)

God sake thats why you load the low loader on the road so you get tracked on the hard for a while to shake all the gutter off before you load... bloody armatures  ;)

I have had some hairy moments getting steel tracked diggers on steel trailers myself in the past. One older chap who shifted our bits and bobs would never let any driver load and always do it himself . He would always go on the trailer from its side for some reason no mater how easy going up the ramps was. He was the only low loader owner /Driver i have seen to use the locking pin on the excavator to lock the slew ring :)
