Upgrade pc tower.

Currently got an ACER xc600 on widows 8 - 500gb hard drive -4gb DDR3 memory. Must be at least 11or12 years old and has increasingly getting slower and slower to the point nothing loads up on web searches,

Main use is general farm office use, TFF reading and YouTube ect....

What do people suggest would be a good upgrade? And any recommended sites to look for a good deal.?

Computers are not something I'm familiar in or know any of the lingo , local computer shop has an Acer tower running on windows 10 for £360-He didn't reel off any specs so unsure as to what it is.

Thanks

Its like everything the more you spend the faster it'll be and potentially longer before it becomes too slow in the future and needs another upgrade.

That being said, I'd make sure it's got and SSD drive for storage maybe 256mb or more, more if your going to store videos on it or something.
8GB RAM minimum. More the better. Then the processor, if intel then go for latest generation i5 (maybe i7 if you want more horse power). If AMD processor then Ryzen 5 or higher.

PCs being sold with old school spinning hard drives (as the main storage device), is so last century now, so avoid. Good for secondary storage though.

I have had a number of machines from pc specialist you can go on the website and either buy off the shelf or spec what you want. Bought a new desktop last year Rayzen 5, loads of ram and 500 Gb ssd put a low spec graphics card on to make it easy to plug in 2 monitors. Didn’t need more storage as everything important is in the cloud. Whole lot was about £600. Very pleased and they do not put any unwanted junk on the machine.

If you have space get 2 monitors or 1 huge 1

That Acer will take 8gb ram, coupled to an SSD and win10 you would a very useful performance increase which would give you another couple of years of use but the CPU is the limiting factor.

You would buy a 2nd user unit much more upto date for not much more than the hardware upgrades for your current system mind.
