Is there such a thing?

I was talking to an old lad yesterday who was on about packing up up tractor driving as he was under the impression that over 70's couldn't tow anything over a certain weight (probably 750kg).

Anyone shed any light?

First I heard of it. I know your licence expires on your 70th birthday and must be renewed, but not aware of any entitlements being taken off unless there are health reasons.

Is it cos newer licences don't allow above 750kg without taking a separate trailer test? At renewal it might be counted as a new licence and come under the post 1997 restrictions?

Watch out that is what they tend to do make sure it comes back with the same categories on it , your old licence will probably show A, E only which is the old groups

New one will have B1 , B , BE and FKP to be able to drive a 3.5t trailer.

Nothing about being different for tractor and certain weights though after 70

Very hard to get them to correct anything if they do get it wrong too, police motorcyclist is the most notorious case, they made him retake his motorbike test after they omitted it from the renewed licence :-(((((((

That's for cars 4x4 not for tractors I hope we've a young lad not done towing licence and didn't think he had to drive tractor and trailer does he?

I passed my car test either 95/96, have got one of those old paper copy licence ( thou in like 10 pieces lol ), got pulled in 3 months ago in the car, copper said that this licence will be illegal from 2015 and that I should send away for a new one but fair play to him as he said to make sure that you photo copy the old one before sending it away so that if they omit anything from the new one you have proof that you entitled to drive the same things as on the old licence..

Are the old paper ones all illegal from 2015? mine is 35 yrs old now, sounds like another money making scam to me:poop:

It seriously worries me that people on here are questioning whether employees are legally allowed to drive.
The first thing anyone should do is check the driving licence of any new employee.
To be able to take any tractor trailer combination on the road, they need the correct licence.
And you are saying you do not know what it is! Stupidity beyond belief!

Well I will give you a clue.
At the least a tractor driving licence class F and be over 17 to drive all vehicles but 16 with an F can drive qualifying vehicles up to 24 tonnes gross
Anyone with a cat B licence can drive any legal wheeled tractor trailer combi up to 24 tonnes
Most rubber tracked vehicles require a class H which needs to be 21 years old

The big question mark is quad tracks, some argue that they can be driven on a class F , I personally think it would not stand up and would definitely prefer to see Class H drivers on them,
It has never been tested in court

Yes see they can use your passport photo, going to keep my head down unless they tell me to get a new licence, they must know I still have the old style one.

Yea they are defo going to be illegal from 2015, clearly a money making scam!! if you have changed address you can get a photo licence for free but if its just an upgrade from paper to photo ID you will have to pay for it..
