US President cites cover crops in speech

Seen loads of times things happening like using cover based on cereals, or allowing really think volunteer cereals to grow within a cover then not killing it early enough before a spring cereal. Mustard also being the ‘go to’ trial cover crop because it’s cheap is another mistake often made, mustard on its own does very little for the soil and increases slugs.
cover crops drilled too late often and incredibly expensive mixtures used which I find hard to justify. I.e black oats over spring oats. Can really do it all very cheaply if you try.

I’ve made all these mistakes and many more so hopefully I speak from experience!

Thank you for the reply. Note what you say. And following the mixes Clive has said he uses and sown pictures. Lot to learn and observe.

We are light years ahead.
All our land destined for spring cropping gets a cover crop that makes money, adds fertility and gets destroyed without resorting to chemicals . Stubble turnips.🤔
heavy land gets covered with an autumn sown crop, thus negating the need.
Sounds great

Defra should do an organic matter test on your soil and one on @Clive when working out which farming method to support for ELMS

How accurate is this? I have the feeling it is too good to be true.
