JCB stuff is like marmalade, people either love it or hate it ! I think we should buy british where possible and as you say big selection of used stuff and I like it generally. However, some big guys near here were all JCB 8/10 yrs ago but got rid never to have again due to problems and poor backup. They seem to be expanding still and exporting a lot so the kit must be good now or else they would be getting smaller. Sorry not much help but if I was in the market for a slew then JCB would be on the list however there are a heck of a lot of firms out there and the chinese stuff is good now also Sany etc.

Very popular weight now so prices are very strong for a good machine, for your budget I think Hitachi 5-7.5 ton (the Purple and Blue Ones are imported from Japan and are a lot cheaper - model 75UR I think) or genuine orange ones even the older EX60 range which was a market leader for many years, is going to be more readily available with a good industry back up through specialist used dealers who know and understand the machines and alternative sources of replacement parts available.

Only chance you have of getting a bargain will be with Knuckle boom and long controls (non servo), anything else and they are extremely hard to get. Think they might be going for export .............

Strong local dealer will help you decide. Consider hiring first to test the water .......

I have 6t JCB 8060; It’s a simple, no frills machine, that does the job. Parts aren’t overly expensive. The 8065 is the later incarnation, and should be affordable, but will have more electronics.

The Kubota 5.7t KX161-3 has a good reputation and should prove a sound buy.

Oh, and you’re likely to find that a JCB has less wear on the off-sett joint than anything other make, although there are no replaceable bushes in the main casting.

Many thanks for all replies.
I agree about buying British, have a jcb loadall 536 60, great machine.
All for simple and less electronics, seen a few 8060’s and 8080’s. However heard a few horror story’s of oil pipes going wrong under cab and being a night mare to replace. Been casually looking for a while but now time to go find one.
Thanks again for all the good advice

If you purchase from a hire company you will probably find the pump has been turned down.you won’t go far wrong with whatever you buy.

The 8080 has a poor reputation, but don’t let that put you off an 8060.
