Used tractor warranty

as title suggests and it’s probably been covered before but can’t find anything similar to what I’m referring to.

Do second hand tractors usually come with warranty. 10yr old plus tractor from main dealer sold and serviced by them with high hours. Running sweet and not anything obvious that’s haunting it. I’m still very good condition.

Looking through the finance papers with their invoice it states *No warranty*

Can’t remember seeing anything like that before.

I’m guessing the 3 months trading standards on major components stands?

Don't think trading standards apply to business purchases. Not many will warrant a 10 yr old tractor with high hours.See if you can speak to the previous owner,he may know more about it than the dealer. The price will reflect the high hours anyway, leaving you spare cash to fix it.I was at a sale today 2011 JD6534 with 12800 hrs, looked immaculate, hammer dropped at £17k,not quite enough but I think it was sold after for around £18k,if it was 2800hrs I reckon it was worth near double that.

Two parties can agree to whatever (legal) terms they like to a contract. A contract is an agreement, pure and simple. No obligation to provide a warranty unless agreed beforehand. Read the small print.

I don't get this business of a dealer stating the machine he is selling is a 'good 'un', then it breaks down five miles down the road and he's not liable. The dealer is meant to be the expert here. 'Fair wear and tear' on an old machine is usually accepted. Major faults, if stated to be in "good working order", are not.

Of course, if the buyer buys in the full realisation that he will have to carry out repairs, or he has inspected the machine and the fault should have been noticed, that's another matter.

Always get it in writing.
Always get it in writing.
Always get it in writing.
Can't be repeated often enough.

If you get a warranty on a 10 yr old tractor the dealer just adds money to the price in case it gives trouble . If it doesn't give trouble he wins . If it does give trouble you have already paid for the repair. And that is how warranty works on older tractors
