SLE?
YepSo is that 145 with boost activated?
They certainly don’t all quote the same method of power measurement, NH quote boosted power whilst Case quote un boosted power for virtually the same tractor.Cant quite make up my mind if it's a true 145 then tbh, I'm inclined to think if it as a true 120.
Makes pricing against rivals a bit confusing unless they all specify by the same method.
Dont like that about nh coz its not very often your gettin what it says on bonnetThey certainly don’t all quote the same method of power measurement, NH quote boosted power whilst Case quote un boosted power for virtually the same tractor.
Whilst I don’t particularly like it, surely anyone with any sense who’s buying a tractor takes 5 minutes to look at the brochure and can see the difference between rated and boosted power so at least if comparing brands they can see the differences, I would hope there aren’t any reps out there that would try to convince customers that the boosted power is the one they should be looking at if changing up from an un boosted tractor, they might get a sale but will end up with an unhappy customer who probably won’t deal with them again, it certainly wouldn’t be good for long term business.Dont like that about nh coz its not very often your gettin what it says on bonnet
Newhollands are the worst for making you feel like all the powers going off and onI know it’s an awkward and unreasonable point of view may be but I don’t consider a variable power tractor one with extra power, rather I consider them one with the power turned back.
I had this out with a hire customer about 2 years ago. He was sure his t 7 200 was a 200 hp tractor and would be as good as our 6499 and i was sayin that it was only a tm155 in a mini skirt which can boost til 200 and a properly set up tm would pull the arse of a t7 in my opinion but he started to get cross so i just agreed with him. Customers always right lolWhilst I don’t particularly like it, surely anyone with any sense who’s buying a tractor takes 5 minutes to look at the brochure and can see the difference between rated and boosted power so at least if comparing brands they can see the differences, I would hope there aren’t any reps out there that would try to convince customers that the boosted power is the one they should be looking at if changing up from an un boosted tractor, they might get a sale but will end up with an unhappy customer who probably won’t deal with them again, it certainly wouldn’t be good for long term business.
Once you’re used to boosted tractors it really is as simple as comparing the figures.
If by the TM being " properly set up" you mean it had a spanner remap.....a tweaked T7 series is a very very different animal.I had this out with a hire customer about 2 years ago. Would it out pull the older larger capacity tm engine? I like older stuf way no emmissions stuf on it. Just a throttle cable and if ye need more power ye just screw her and its ther all the time not just when she takes a notion o boostinIf by the TM being " properly set up" you mean it had a spanner remap.....a tweaked T7 series is a very very different animal.
NH are wrong IMO in the way they badge their tractors, the Case way is right, just think of the boost as a bonus. This system suits me fine,i only need the extra power for baling and combi drilling, and it is there then, for ploughing I have 115hp in a relatively heavy tractor which suits me fine.I fully appreciate it doesn't suit everyone and NH are likely to have unhappy customers cos most people think the number on the bonnet is what they have when it isn't at all!I know it’s an awkward and unreasonable point of view may be but I don’t consider a variable power tractor one with extra power, rather I consider them one with the power turned back.

Although my experience of TM's is a few years ago now, I have spent plenty of time driving remapped John Deere 6430's and a particularly savage 6930 putting out a believed 250hp+ , plus a monstrously torquey Derv Doctored Puma, and i would say yes, no problem beating the output of the TM's Powerstar engine.Would it out pull the older larger capacity tm engine? It's just a number on the bonnet though? Did you buy a Ford 7610 thinking it was 610hp? Or John Deere 6930 hoping for 930? If you're going to spend the money that these tractors cost new without doing something as basic as finding out what power they are, salesmen selling them on boosted hp is a different matter, quite frankly you deserve what you get.NH are wrong IMO in the way they badge their tractors, the Case way is right, just think of the boost as a bonus. This system suits me fine,i only need the extra power for baling and combi drilling, and it is there then, for ploughing I have 115hp in a relatively heavy tractor which suits me fine.I fully appreciate it doesn't suit everyone and NH are likely to have unhappy customers cos most people think the number on the bonnet is what they have when it isn't at all!
They were different times when the numbers on the bonnet had no relation to hp,nowadays people do believe what is on the bonnet. It's just a number on the bonnet though? In theory a unchipped t7 185 should be same as tm 140 screwed to 185 but its no where near the same. Chippin them gives them a big advantage but then to compare apples to apples the tm would then need a further screw to what the t7 185 wolud put out with chip and boost on. Still think tm would be fit for herAlthough my experience of TM's is a few years ago now, I have spent plenty of time driving remapped John Deere 6430's and a particularly savage 6930 putting out a believed 250hp+ , plus a monstrously torquey Derv Doctored Puma, and i would say yes, no problem beating the output of the TM's Powerstar engine.
In the case of The Puma's NEF 6.7, the exact same engine comes from the factory in up to 400hp tune!
Nh went from the tm range with models with roughly the hp on the bonnet to the 6000/7000 ranges and people seemed to still be able to buy the right sized tractors? They were different times when the numbers on the bonnet had no relation to hp,nowadays people do believe what is on the bonnet.
