Using a Big Grain Bucket to Fill a Small (Drill) Hopper?

Anyone care to share any ingenious ideas / designs for achieving the above? Could buy a narrow bucket for ~ £700 but the capacity is small necessitating lots of scoops or could buy a bag / hopper filling bucket but inevitably expensive ~ £3,000?? Any simple / safe / reliable designs for adapting what we've got would be very welcome! Thanks

For the last 10 or so years, we've used an Andrew Guest Accord hopper to place DAP on our potato planter, reasonably successfully. It's not without flaws though, there is a limit to how fast we can plant, and how much fert we can meter out without the thing jamming/wheel skipping/backpressure...

Can you not find a way off filling spud big bags with grain first? Through the grain dryer or even finding a way of holding them open in the shed and tipping grain in.

Then use a discharge valve.

This is what we do. A local big spud grower gives us his seed bags & we get a use out of them. Easy with a telescopic and bag lifter, just need to find an easier way of doing part bags into the hopper.

Folded curved sheet with back plate and loader brackets.
As long as dont expect big loads, go steady and curve acts as a spout.

A bucket fitted with an auger? Plenty of these off the shelf for stock feeding

You can. The chute is removable

Other makes are available. I borrowed a similar design one (Titus but no pictures on their FB page) from a good friend, it made easy work of bagging several tonnes for the drill

Good but expensive and depends how much your planning on doing with it?
Like buying a Fendt and 5 furrow plough to do 5 acres , nice but over kill possibly?

we made 2 patterns that fitted inside the grain bucket out of 8 X 4 ply , then separated them with 7 inch X 3 Inch purling , the length depends on how much you want to reduce your bucket size , nailed it all up put the frame work in the bucket and then held it in place with a ratchet strap , worked fantastic , took 2 hrs to make and saved so much time fannying around filling bags up

I have in the past filled an empty fert bag with empty fert bags , put it in the bucket so it occupies half the width, couple of lengths of bailer twine around the bucket stops the bag falling out as the bucket is tipped. then fill the empty half of the bucket from back of trailer. Works fine for a few tonnes It doing a lot I would look at constructing something out a few boards and 2x4 to occupy half the bucket instead of the bags.

We tack on steel plates onto the bucket face to funnel the grain out through the middle, albeit not on a grain bucket, though I'm sure it can be done.

expensive for what it is and the clear plastic bit used to be like cheese when it caught a bit of sun, i think it mustve been biodegradable or something
