Using FYM and spreading clover seed to reduce the need of bagged fertiliser

I’m thinking about applying mixed red and white clover seeds on some of our land to hopefully increase the quality of the crop and also to fixate nitrogen.
I was hoping to just spread 2kg of seed per acre then Harrow and roll it. What is the best way to spread the seeds?
Do people use fertiliser spreader?

Hoping the clover and increased FYM will reduce to use of fertiliser

Is it the right time of year to sow clover?

sow with a slug pellet thing with the slide very very nearly shut

Or put a handful of seeds on top of the sheep mineral bucket when you go past (you have to have sheep for this option.

My experience of adding clover to an already established ley is that you won't see any benefit this year. I do wonder if throwing it on top of fym in the spreader might give it a better start.
