Using Round Bale Straw to keep Sheep in Yard

Hello
I've got access to a new shed this year to lamb my ewes, it's a pole barn with a good roof on top, the only issue is I don't have enough hurdles to fence the outside to keep them in said pole barn, could I use round bale of Straw round the shed to keep them in, or will they eat through and destroy the bales? It's only 50 ewes in for about 2 months?

They will eat through them, then hang themselves in the net. Bloody sheep. 🙄😂

We used to use squares. I think they will eventually get through them but you can replace them as and when necessary. Made some knock in gate hangers with rio to attach poldenvales and make separate pens for groups too. Handy for when the weather is shite and you can’t turn out for a day or two.

Brilliant thank you guy! Yes thought that the sheep would just eat their way through the bales and netting! I was thinking round bales of Straw as have loads of bales around the yard! Will look at all your suggestions! Thank you ☺

If you have got electric fence on the place put the bales round end to end and electric fence on the sheep side .

We have just put up a new shed for ewes to lamb in, and have used round bales around some of it for the same reason you staed

We have just put up a new shed and have housed our in lamb ewes in it. We have put round bales on their ends along the front to keep them in for now until we get around to putting up something more substantial. 160 ewes have been in there for well over 3 weeks now and haven't really touched them. I thought they might have started eating them by now but, no! I would do it if you have the bales already. Helps as a bit of a windbreak too!

We kept our suckler cows and some weaned calf's in with straw bales for years before we got sorted. Admittedly these were half Heston's and they used to eat a few windows in so we would just replace the bales as and when. Last couple of years we ran an electric fence Infront, battery or mains, and this stopped it.
