Vaccinate twice or twice as many?

There'll be plenty of debate about it. And the 'proper' way is to follow the license protocol.

BUT, in the case of these vaccines, stimulation response is very high after the first jab. For example, I think the phizer is 90 with the first, 94 with the second.

Therefore, in such a time critical situation as this, where hundreds of people are dying as each day passes, I think there's a strong case for best use of resources to maximise each jab, by covering all the most vulnerable groups as far as possible while resources are restricted.

RE the Oxford vaccine.... two full jabs are 62% (I think) effective but half first dose and full second is 92%. Apparently because the half dose regime hasn’t been tested on the over fifties and not in enough numbers they won’t do it.

WTF? Why not save a few doses and do the half dose on the younger part of the population and the full dose on the over 50’s?

I’m missing something obviously.

There's even talk today that we could be given two different vaccines in the two doses.
It's difficult enough to get the covidiots to take the vaccine without putting off the rest of us. I tend to give them more leeway than some as nobody has had this to face before but they don't help themselves.

Theres an optimum time for the 2nd dose to be received.

The truth is the doing of it, they (the nhs) are struggling to get enough stuff done , one dose to more people would save labour/time, a finite resource , is what they are thinking i bet.

Why why why would the government go against the advice of the manufacturer?

Incompetency at its highest.

I don't know if it's incompetency, probably more like desperation. You have a situation that is rapidly getting out of control and only a very limited supply of vaccine. Can you make it go further, bearing in mind that you are looking 20+ days ahead before a high level of protection is achieved. Pfizer say no, with there vaccine, possibly due to legal reasons as they have no trial work to say one way or another. And this probably has to be respected with something as currently unique as RNA vaccine, but it may well be ok with the Oxford AZ option as there is trial evidence and the technology is much better understood.

My wife told me this, this morning and i thought she must have heard it wrong.............obviously not. Seems a bit odd though.

even I a pliable to authority and generally biddable person will possibly need that explaining to me if it comes to it. Sounds awfully like an agronomist getting rid of some old back of the shed chemical mixing it away.

Putting film up of using inch and a half needles will put people off as well. Another wtf moment last night. You cant even get that far in with old people, you just hit the bone. Half inch is generally used.

Yes,I reckon they’ve realised the NHS is too disfunctional to organise the population having the second jab in a timely manner.

Thats why they are making it simpler in the hope they get to a kind of herd immunity and the r rate then drops.

Be under no illusion,it’s not about saving lives,it’s about not clogging up the NHS with half dead people on trollies.

The logistics of giving just one jab makes the mind boggle let alone 2 🤪

yeah herd immunity is their hope and asap.

The press

every one I know who has had the flue jab says how efficient and quick it is

but the press reports just give us doom and gloom about the vaccine
could that be because most of the journos are at home or are under 60 and have not had first had experience of vaccination

They are not old enough to know someone who had Polio. One of the lasting memories I have is the local potato merchant with his withered leg in calipers. The days when spuds we stored in graves and riddled into hessian one cwt bags. I can still visualise the effect as a five/six year old, which has been lasting. There were no second thoughts about her children being vaccinated.

I'm under 50 and I had the BCG.
