Actually the US government put $1.2 billon dollars into the AZ vaccine and they are expecting a return.
Oh don't do facts! He doesn't like facts. Neither do his fan club. They like to make something up and let their mates keep repeating it until they convince themselves it's true. Good sport for the terminally thickšŸ™„ Express readers and their ilk.
Doesn't change the facts and never will.

It's not that simple and it's not particularly about risk. AZ put forward a phase 3 trial which in effect was 4 separate trials with differing protocols, then lashed them together as if it was one trial with a universal set of results. Most countries have been prepared to go along with this but with certain provisos like age. However, the UK government has added to the uncertainty with it's universal one dose regime. Due to this the FDA in the US asked for the p3 trial to be rerun back in November in order to remove these inconsistencies. The FDA look for minimum efficacy of 50%, AZ at the time were putting forward 62%, since then we have figures ranging from as low as 22% up to 97% and everything in between, depending on who, what and how you are measuring the data. What we do know, if it's been produced correctly (which is a separate problem) it works, we don't know yet for certain how well.
The science of itself is of course 'not that simple'; but the principles are and the overstatement of risk was just that. The UK has not got a 'one dose regime', it has - on clinical advice, which I had to be reassured about - recognised that there can safely be a greater time between jabs without affecting efficacy.

Had the AZ vaccine yesterday, feeling a bit tired with slight headache. How long before these side effects pass ? Also the 15 minute wait is no longer needed !

Welcome to the AZ club!
Mine was a fortnight ago today - felt very lethargic for about 48 hours, and a bit coldy ever since. Whether the latter is related I don't know!
Definitely a post jab euphoria though...

And, Iā€™ll bet all the ā€œtypeā€ of people advocating vaccine now would have been the ā€œtypeā€ advocating this 106.5 years ago

FFS, I donā€™t suppose itā€™s occurred to you that you might be living in a greater Germany if they hadnā€™t answered that call? Perhaps you ought ask your neighbours their opinion?
I expect Iā€™ve just confirmed your opinion, congratulations. I canā€™t quite see the point your making though, or the irony.
