vacuum tanker pump oil

i have recently got a hispec tanker with a jurop pump on it, sticker on tanker says to use SAE 20 oil but am struggling to find any such oil online,is ordinary milking macine oil the same spec? What does everyone else use in their pumps?

Millers oils will give you an answer if it's the same and probably have someone close to you for supply

I have used all sorts in the past, engine oil, milking machine oil, hydraulic oil. Never had an issue

But i think air pump oil or milking machine oil is whats recommended

Vacuum vane type pumps and rotary compressors alike all run fine on standard hydraulic oil.

SAE 20 or its equivalent (VG 22) is more of a winter grade oil, a bit thin in these temps.

Do you know what model pump the tanker has got on it? If you want the recommended oils see below.

The standard air cooled Jurop PN series pumps spec an ISO VG 46 grade oil:

The larger air injection cooled Jurop PNR series pumps want a heavier grade ISO VG 150 oil:

The standard air cooler Jurop from the post above is the one we have on our 2300 Gallon Hi-Spec which we had new this time last year.

Strange pump though, the oil seems to backup in the sight glasses as if it isn't going anywhere??! But it has to be, as it's expelling the stuff from the exhaust. Droppers are set to roughly 1 drop per second.

I've ran hydraulic oil and milking machine oil through ours btw, seems fine on both.

I'd say 1 drop per second is too much.... It might explain why it's backing up on the sight glass....

I run my major tanker at 1 drop every 3 seconds...??

We sell quite a few MEC pumps & when new oil dripper set to every 2 seconds
When bedded in every 3 seconds.

We also find good engine oil is better as they work a lot harder than a milking pump , whose oil is very thin

Too much is better than to little.

For setting oil flow, the HiSpec manual quotes the middle ground - irrespective it seems of whether it’s the standard 9000 or 11000 litre pumps or the optional 14000 litre pump thats fitted - and just say 45 drops/min. That would be at full chat.

The Jurop PN series Manual quotes:
- 65 drops/min on the PN84M (9000 litre) pump and
- 80 drops/min on the PN106M (11000 litre) pump
Both running on a VG 46 grade hydraulic oil, all at full rated speed.

Jurop quote 40 drops/min (and minimum 30 drops/min) in the manual for PNR142M 14000 litre pump running heavier VG 150 oil.

If the pumps are being run at a slower speed then the oil flow obviously reduces proportionaly to the speed.
