Vaderstad Carrier Packer Replacement

I have just bought a 5m Vaderstad Carrier (mostly because it was cheap) with a totally worn out steel ring packer. Several of the rings have completely collapsed. What are my options? Just replacing with genuine rings from Vaderstad would cost 6000-7000 which is a hell of a lot on a 5m machine! It would still be a cheap machine, just not such a bargain.

I don't want cast rings as we have the occasional lump of granite. Has anybody else fitted anything else to a carrier successfully?

Or does anybody know where to get cheap pattern steel rings?

I think this has come up before but couldn't find it again.

Thanks for any thoughts.

We have two types of 24” pressed steel rings that can be custom spaced to make a packer/press. There would be some mods required to scrapers and possibly bearings. Give us a call to discuss

I talked to my local dealer and he proposed a hefty discount on the price of the rings if i wasn't in a hurry. I think he waited till he had a new machine coming from the factory and added the parts order on. I had to wait several months if I remember correctly. I will say though that 5 years later they are getting very worn again and won't last more than another season or two which makes me think I wouldn't buy another Carrier. Our land is the type where you change plough points twice a day so I am used to paying for metal but these rings are just too expensive.

it drives me insane some years here after using a carrier, dry weather carries on into September, get a windy day and feel half my soil is blowing away😳
going to spray stubbles with glyph this year instead, tine drill can follow the subsoiled 👍

Going to look a CR650 Carrier but the cast ring packer looks about worn out.
I would rather replace the cast rings with a packer similar to the new style carriers.
Is there anyone that does a direct replacement for the cast rings
I have rung Agricast but they have nothing to fit not even cast rings
I have rung Tim Howard and he is going to see what he could maybe make

Agri linc do cast rings at about £100 each. If anybody has a cheap idea for the back of a carrier I think they will be popular on here.

I have rung them, they could get down to about £90 if i bought a full set which is 56 i think

I'm wondering if it would be possible to get some old power harrow packer rollers and convert them to fit

Just sold a carrier and wouldn’t have another for this reason. To expensive upkeep wise.

I saw a carrier with a Cambridge ring rear roller once. It literally just bolted on from memory as the shaft size must of been the same 🤷🏻‍♂️

See a few lads over here weld up the steel rings when getting wore before they split. Ever do something like that to get more from it
