The manual has a good guide, you can use the calibration pans to measure seed depth, if grass I sprinkle on top and let rear Harrow do its job.

I must be missing something here ? but why use an expensive to buy , pull and run heavy drill just to broadcast seeds on the surface and use its harrow ?

From a costs / business point of view that just doesn't make sense.

Because it bought and paid for, our only drill, we don't own a fert spreader, and it does a good job. Drill does all our cereals, forage crops, and grass lot quicker/cheeper than a combi.

Not familiar with your drill but mine every row is set individuall. I’ll set four at the depth I think is right and then four next to it the next setting shallower then next four deeper that the first. Then choose the one you want. Mine is 68 rows so not a quick change so I’d rather be right the first time. Seed a few hundred feet then check and set them all.

Assuming it’s a air drill not box although principle is the same
First check the discs are not worn out, I guess it’s new to you. If the coulters extend below the disc it may need adjustment/changing. If the disc is worn the coulters can be lifted from the middle to the bottom disc. To get some more life.

When the drill is working the central ram sets the main depth and (on a4m) the screw adjustments do the wings. In theory the numbers on the scales correspond, in practice did a hole and check. Low number on the scale is shallow. Double check the little spring on the end of the ram stop is not broken and carry a spare.
Best way to set is to plant a little and check, you will learn with experience and the wear on the discs changes the number in the scale. Once set for a crop I don’t often change. The measure thingy that comes with the drill is really useful.
It’s fantastic for grass, set just below the surface and it will be fine, I’ve planted 1000s of acres with one.
