Vaderstad Rapid for direct drilling?

yes i have drilled 80 ha dd with my vaddy this year, so far looks good.

What soil type are you on and following what crop etc ?

I’ve done 80 acres on chalk after maize. Not for the 1st time. Need to slow down and if possible drill at an angle to maize rows.

I've direct drilled turnips and osr with a Rapid on clay and chalk soils. I used the system disc a bit where there was a need for some loose soil around the seed. Removing the straw is essential due to hair pinning and beware of slot closure if it is at all wet.

If it is wet and you decide to drill would you roll to help increase slot closure

That would encourage drilling in the wrong conditions. I’ve rolled after drilling wet to try and close the slot. It made no difference - better to drill it dry or not at all.

I have done some DD with a rapid (grass into wheat stubble) unfortunately no pictures as I wasn't there for emergence but it came up really well and tillered out brilliantly. @suffeks

well I ordered a new rapid for DD. without pivot and without front implement, but with fert. we'll see how it goes decision based off pics in this thread lol

I have a joker so worst case if need be I can min till the field first but after canola and beans no till should work as there won't be much residue

ok as promised and inspired by this thread...

new '22 rapid 300c arrived! for no till and min till, no pivot, no front tool - only the crossboard heavy which i'm not using. today was my first no till experience... into last year's 10t wheat crop. i first flail mowed the field last week. drilled soybeans, rapid easily cut through the trash and placed the seeds into moist soil. so i guess it should grow! i did #8 on the depth scale and went 8kph for minimal soil disturbance, happy how its looking. if the seeds grow i will post more pics later this summer.

I don’t think you’ll have any issues on that soil, wait until November and I’ll send you some wet clay over , or currently some concrete !!

ok here's an update, soybeans cut, drilled wheat no till after the beans, fert and seed discs only, results are amaze but beans don't have a lot of residue

below one pic of the soybeans from that field couple posts up, and pics today of wheat drilled 2 weeks ago using trimble range point rtx good for 15cm worst case but you can see perfectly straight no overlaps or gaps, i set passes for 2.98m
