Coulter discs bearings do between 2.5k acres/m and 3k/m so long as they are greased reasonably regularly. There is 10k acres on my 3m and it is on its second set of discs wirh me.(bought welll used) Discs do 2000-2500 acres per set and we are only now replacing the odd bearing.
Are the cleated Tires that much better? . How many acres before the metal support bar for the Coulter’s goes . When did they change the 6m picking up across the hole width on the headland.
Cleated tyres much better when it’s wet, if you are buying one always get staggered tyres if you can it’s easier to pull. I have found original discs last better than other manufacturers. Have only replaced an odd disc bearing when they go.
Totally agree with all BG says, tried Spalding's discs only lasting 1600 ish acres. The holes that support my metal support bars are about goosed. They could be bushed, my machine had a hard life with a contractor on stoney stuff before I got it. Sat outside for 11 years looked rough as guts but had new metering, my original 1993 machine went to Orkney looking good but metering system playing up. Currently coveting a 2007 machine along the road if I could only get him to sell.
We did the discs on my 3m box drill, replaced any bearings that had any sign of play but still have to do about 3-4 bearings a year, I wish I had replaced all the bearings when I did the discs. The stones here knock the hell out of the bearings, greasing of which, the grease merely lubricates the seal, the bearings are in fact sealed bearings so no matter how much grease you put in you're not lubricating the bearing, too much grease and it blows the seal edges and allows crap in, one pump a season apparently is what should be done according to the Vaddy chap I spoke to.
@MrNoo spot on about greasing the bearings, 2 pumps of grease onto the bearing seal at the start of every season is all they need any more and the rubber seal gets pushed out!
personally would never put anything other than genuine parts on my drill they aren't that much more expensive but last a fair bit longer!
Agricultural link have advertised and seem cheap a few different tyres
