Valtra fuel usage

I just got a new T154 and first job has been mowing with a 10ft krone mounted conditioner. Crops are heavy and I’m on hills most of the time. I’ve used 281 litres to cut 74 acres.3.79 litres per acre. Good or bad? I’ve never measured fuel usage before just felt the tank was emptying rather fast. I know there are so many variables to this and as I said it was heavy going and on hills.

A bit much if you ask me. But if it's a brand new one then you can expect it to be a bit thirstier when breaking it in for the first 700 hours or so.

not bad in heavy grass , I always said a gallon an acre for a single mower , I've a t191 and with just the back mower it would mow 70 acres on the fill and since I put on the front mower it now does 100 acres on the fill. I've a t254 and it's easier on fuel pulling the wagon than the t190.

Friend of mine runs a T234 and Fendt 724 and he says the Fendt wins every time on fuel use and drivability. They like the Valtra and bought it because they think it will be cheaper to own overall but they do admit the Fendt is the better machine. He reckons on average the Valtra will use 3-4 litres per hour more than the Fendt on the same jobs. He mows with both tractors so I'll find out some figures for you.

Spoken to him and he said on John deere mowers the Fendt will use 18l/hour and the Valtra will use 21l/hour. Same mowers they move between tractors.

I have recorded the fuel usage here for near 20 years.

Krone 2.8m mounted mower conditioner on Deutz k430 (120hp at the shaft), and Deutz 6150.4 (150hp at the shaft). Heavy single cut with only one of my fields that isn't runaway steep.

Both tractors use between 2.8 and 3.1 l/acre. The 150hp one just covers the ground faster.

What’s he got on his fendt a 5ft6” pz? Our new 724 drinks 45 litres an hour on constant mowing with triples

As mentioned initially that’s their average not spot rate so includes all the road work which they do a lot of. When I spoke to him he was on his way to mow 70 acres which was 50 miles from his base. At the time he was doing 56km/hr and the display rate in the cab read 12l/hour cruising on a flat road. I’m afraid I don’t know how wide the mower is although it’s front and back mounted.
