Yep, make sure you get the ‘e’ model ...loads of torque. We’ve had a T174e versu for 18 months and have been really impressed. I was a convert from MF and my operator was a JD fan. No regrets.

We have an N174 so nearly the same minus the wheelbase and engine. The back end layout and linkage stabalisers etc are great but spools in float are a little slow. Great LED lights but are limited on their adjustment angles. The cab is really roomy with plenty of room for the dog and lunch bag etc and with the tiny steering wheel and fast steer it's incredibly manoeuvable. The smart touch armrest is really nice but the elbow pad gets dirty really quickly and doesn't come clean again, you are also limited on right hand seat swivel but to the left can swing 180 degrees. The guidance works well but is very limited on functions compared to greenstar which is my major complaint. The direct box is as good as autopower when driven on the 'stick' in the field but on the road it is not as precise and as good but we are ring fenced so doesn't really matter. Ours has air cab and front axle suspension which are fantastic, great view of the front lincs to. I have spent a lot more time in Deeres than Valtras but overall the Valtra is a better machine by some margin. Valtras are also a lot lighter than JDs

Direct gearbox is fantastic. I have a wee n134 direct with a loader.

Think of it as a four speed gearbox that does zero to 6,9,16, and 30mph in gear A,B,C and D respectively. Haulage work it pulls away in C and auto shifts to D, but needs a bloody big hill fully laden before it needs to downshift back to C. Engine braking is superb through the gearbox just by easing off the foot pedal or pulling back the stick.

Switching between pedal, stick and cruise speeds is really easy for any job be it yard shuttling, ploughing, haulage, baling etc etc etc.

I think it has an e stamped on the badge after the model number. So a 174e will be on the badge, in fact in the T series only the 174 is available in e and the n114 and n154 in the n series.

I have the 254 here which is the same build just more power , it's the versu touch screen I have and all the drivers love it , serious power , easy to use and easy on fuel.

I tried a direct a year ago and liked it but I couldn't figure out how to get it to maintain PTO speed while mowing on a hill by itself like the JD's do I had to pull the forward speed back manually before it killed the engine .
Is there a way of driving it that when you are on PTO work it sorts itself out ?

Aye, the engine rev droop setting needs set towards power.

On the pre touch screen versions like mine, you just turn the transmission knob anticlockwise on the console beside the window. Set pointing at about "10 o'clock" seems about right to me.

On the touch screen you swipe into transmission settings and adjust the droop there to make it keep the revs up.

On road haulage I find turning the dial clockwise is better for keeping the forward speed up as it lets the engine die back to peak torque before it reduces the transmission ratio. Bit like on a fixed ratio you let her revs die back before going down a gear.

Hope that wasn't clear as mud ??

I'm sure we were playing around with droop settings but can't remember. Does it not just put itself into PTO mode like I'm used to on the JD? Then you can play with the drop if required

Possibly on the smart touch? I've not had a play with one so only going by what I've read.

On mine you need to turn the dial, but it means you can quickly fine tune it to give the best balance between keeping the speed and revs up, while keeping the fuel usage down.

I take it the dealer didn't explain how to drive the bloody thing before they gave you it??

We were both learning on the job I can't knock him as he's done plenty with them but not PTO work with a direct and as usual I was in a rush to get going .
I could see us having 1 at some point when our loader tractor is due a change as it's a very good loader tractor but it's not for me as a main tractor bit definitely interested in how to work it properly
